No, please, no. They'll just bowdlerize it, turn it in to Spy Kids 33⅓.

Didnt think much of GITS (ha ha,gits) anyway so a remake doesnt bother me.

there not "remaking Ghost in the shell" they're making a live action version of the manga of which the animated film Ghost in the shell is based [thou there are some big differences between the manga and the film]. There's already 3 animated films - one of which is based on the tv series stand alone complex and not on the manga at all.

Now I'm not saying this film is going to be any good or not and yes most who will see it will either [a] make the annoying matrix comments or only know the anime and not all the other versions but then you can say the same for fans of the manga who get annoyed when people go on about the film like the manga never existed - same thing happens with Akira.

or we can realise that everyone is a n00b from the height of someones elitist platform, watch the film and enjoy it, or if it really rubs us up the wrong way - ignore it.

Variety says it's Scarlett Johansson (allegedly confirmed) and the gig is now back on, with Rupert Sanders directing

Spielberg is apparently a time-served, day-one fan of GITS, so this might turn out decent. Linky (French news).

    EDIT - Variety's piece here.

I am anti this idea. Thank God Evangelion has reached development Hell. Wasn't there talk of an Akira live action? Utterly useless.

Another year passes, and it's still "in development", but we do have some more casting news: Beat Takeshi has been tapped to play Daisuke Aramaki.the chief of Public Security Section 9. Also, according to IMDB, Pilou Asbæk (Borgen, Game of Thrones) is to play Batou, and Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire, Hannibal) is to play the Laughing Man, a character we've seen in Stand Alone Complex.
