Blotchy faces

I was lucky enough to get some photies of my friend Lena and Bertie, and some of them even turned out not too bad, the only problem is that the room was pretty hot and both were a bit hot and red-faced.

Is there a really easy way to de-blotchify their faces without ruining the whole thing?
I'm a total newb at PP (i use Gimp), and it's taking me ages just to remove the flash from the pictures - so if anyone could point me to a tutorial, i'd be much appreciative.

Or am i being oversensitive - can you really notice it?

    Here's and example:

Personally, I think Bertie always looks like that.

    I don't think it's blatantly obvious.

Not sure about GIMP, but in Photoshop you could select their faces, and then reduce the red channel a bit.

I don't think it's that bad at all really! If you were that conscious of it, you could convert to black and white. I think it's fine the way it is, though. :)

The chap doesn't spend €550 a week on make up to look blotchy! He deserves better.

There's loads of skin smoothing techniques you can do in PS...not sure about the gimp but there must be ways to do it.

The blotches won't be an issue though unless you're planning on printing the pic and giving it to your mate, they're not that severe even on the large sizes.

went to hue saturation selected the red channel reduced saturation of reds.

    zoomed into berties face (OMG!)

    selected colour range
selected some of the redder pixels until i felt i had enough
    went to levels
    select reds
    tones down the reds
    feathered the selection
blurred to get rid of some of the blotches

now i'm looking through google to see if I can find an appropriately sized picture of money, that red background is just asking to be removed.
