I am in the market for a replacement for my compact , and that olympus looks like the job , very small , and is going to have that 25mm pancake lens available with it.

It may have been the worst on the test , but I doubt any of them would match the 20D or 5D I already have.
To replace a compact though , that E-420 should do the job.

It's not a fair test though, the 450D isn't replacing the 400D it's sitting between it and the 40D and the A350 is also a class above the Nikon and Olympus cameras. The A200 should be in there as the Sony DSLR.

The E-420 does look like a quality small camera with the pancake though, much more durable than a DP1, but slightly larger.

Absolutely , cant wait to try one out , the proposed pricing looks good too , with the body coming in at less than a G9 .

I agree the tests were not fair at all , and also decidedly amateur , looks like newcomers to dslr taking the cameras out of the box and just firing away , Im sure any of those cameras would be nice camera to have , some may take a bit longer to get used to , but they should all be up to the job.

We should have a gear review day, when we all bring out cameras and lenses and show them how to do it...

Then we can post the results and I can lock every single 'what camera/lens/tripod/ thread' that is posted in the next 6 months ;)

Why you think 450D is not replacing 400D?

Canon have 3 category's PRO 1D 5D etc, semi pro good construction 20D, 30D, 40D and then cheaper and not so great construction 300D, 350D 400D and 450D.

I read a review of it which claimed that the 400D wasn't being replaced.
Either way, the 450D and A350 are in a different class to the E-420 and D60. Although all are capable cameras and the E-420 has some interesting tricks up its sleeve.

I'm quite sure 450D is replacing the 400D...
I bought the Canon 40D and when i checked reviews i saw a lot of times people comparing with Nikon D300 that its 500$ more expensive and its in a different level.

So i guess when they are out of options they use different classes to give their reviews...

Have read on sites and even a Canon blurb that the 450D is not replacing the 400D.
    For the time being anyway.

Actually, Canon consider the xxD bodies to be pro too. If you go to register with CPS (Canon Professional Services), they consider 1D, 5D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D all to be professional camera bodies.

The xxxD bodies are considered prosumer.

Sounds like a brilliant idea. That's one major advantage of boards - the variety of equipment.

    So, when and where???? :D

Well i guess u realize what i wanted to say, you have different price ranges in that 3 segments...
So i can say they are all pro camera just have different segments...

And because Canon doesn't assume that the 450D is a replacement of 400D doesn't mean it's not, you never see companies saying this come to replace that...

Digital SLR Magazine also mention the 450D is not replacing the 400D but will sit between it and the 40D
