All Fox releases (and the late New Line's Region A jobs like Pan's Labyrinth) all have lossless DTS-MA soundtracks as there high-def option..
Up to now, people using the PS3 as their BD player have been limited to hearing the DTS core track when playing such titles..

This is a huge, huge update for many BD followers which, once again, puts the PS3 at the top of the Blu-ray heap, if not the top entire home media device out there..

So you can have HD audio now (as long as you have the right equipment to start with !) from the likes of Kingdom of Heaven, Simpsons, AVP (ouch!), Die Hards, Sunshine, Ice Ages, Pan's, Juno, From Hell etc etc etc etc..
There has been a call on Fox to choose a different HD option for their soundtracks, but they stuck to their guns, and with the most pre-eminent BD player out there (along with new players from Pioneer, Panasonic and Sony), there now seems no reason to change..

    Well,
there are a fair few out there already.......maybe not to everyone's liking, but people have different tastes..
The question is what films will be coming down the line....they are as important as films that are out now. Fox and Warner/New Line could change tack in the future and resort to TrueHD or even LPCM, but as it stands right now, they appear to be encoding with DTS-MA (even for recent catalogue titles like Predator and Commando).
DTS-MA offers a lossless track, comparable to uncompressed PCM, but uses far less space, so it is a realistic option for publishers out there..
I for one wouldn't want to be caught with no DTS-MA capability, if/whenever the likes of LOTR show up and Warner decide to go down that route (New Line's recent incorporation into Warner may have an affect on their DTS plans all the same)

At least now the option will be there (more likely to be internal decoding than pure bitstream, due to some confusion/debate over the audio codec capability of early PS3's HDMI chip but will wait and see - same result either way)

Titles are Region A focused...so there may be some changes with different region releases.....its a little old, so there have been a few more

Well, the new store is the obvious one. It's quite slick, but some of the images aren't working at the moment. It's a huge improvement though, very fast.

    Haven't seen anything else yet.

Well I've just placed my order for a Region A 40gig PS3 thanks to this update, I can then import titles like Predator, Commando, Point Break and enjoy DTS-HD-MA not to mention superior region A releases like The Prestige.
Fingers crossed I don't get hit with customs charges :)
    Thank you Sony for this!
I've tried some of the Region B MA titles I have and the sound is excellent, if you have the amp to make use of it, stuck in Xmen The Last Stand and the sound quality was excellent!!!! Thank you Sony for this :)

    Good choice Snake..
cannot recommend Region A highly enough to people who want the very best from Blu-ray..
Players over here are just too costly and too obsolete compared to the PS3's playback..
Disc cost as well is scandalous in Region B (apart from some exceptions) compared to Region A availability online..............it will settle over time the more and more Blu-ray supplements DVD, in much the same way Region 2 pricing fell into line back in the good old days of DVD..

yeah I hope it works out, did u import a US PS3? And have u a suitable amp to take advantage of the HiDef soundtracks? I bought a Onkyo 605 amp last summer so have been enjoying the different HD soundtracks since then, the demise of HD-DVD has left me researching on weather or not to import a profile 1.1 Panasonic BD30 which will bitstream the data for the amp to decode, but held off to see if Sony would come through on the DTS-HD-MA update, so jumped today :)

Imported a launch Jap PS3 (Region A BD, Region 2 DVD-NTSC) way back when..

Used to use a standalone, but there just not worth it a the moment........The PS3 is consistently the finest HD media player out there (I'd even place it above the Toshiba XE1 HD DVD player)..
Since the subsequent 1.1 and 2.0 Profile updates, the PS3 is the only BD player I would recommend to anyone at the moment..
After the summer when the new Panasonic and Pioneer 2.0 players show up stateside, it may be time to import one.....but they'll have to contain every single feature that we've become used to with the PS3 with the added bonus of flawless HD audio bit streaming..

Using a Sony STR5300ES as the main amp at the moment.....considered the Denon, Pioneer and Onkyos, but they all have their pluses and minuses, and eventually the Sony seemed the logical choice..
Excellent DTS-MA, TrueHD decoding (for bitstreaming) and handles multi-channel PCM output from the PS3 without breaking a sweat..
