    Thank's!

A grand buys a rough but running 35x. A reasonable one is worth around 2.5k. They'll run forever but much depends on condition of tyres, if the block's cracked, oil pressure, ability to start, tinwork...

Show tractors are around 5k+ but I suspect it's heart over head and that end of the market and I am not up on this area... my 35 is used for work.

Hard to be able to value your neighbour's tractor without seeing it. The description makes it sound like a rough but running.

Given I am still trying to decide whether to buy another 35 for work or renovate my own one, maybe send me a PM with tractor location. I might be interested if it's within a reasonable distance from me.

    Hi,
I was wondering if you could help me also with a query about MF 35x.
Basically I am thinking of buying one, but have been told that the engine is block welded or something - I am not too sure what this means - Is this a big deal?
I am buying it as a present for someone and Im just wondering if this can be fixed by him?
And how much would you expect to pay for a 35x with this problem?
    Thanks

Wouldn't be too certain about a welded block. If the work has been carried out, maybe, but bear in mind, the engine in a tractor is load bearing. It might not (or might, but probably not) give way and split in two, but the biggest concern would be the weld splitting, maybe on rough ground for example. There's no suspension apart from the tyres, so a good rattling on a dry field could stress the weld and crack it.
A 35x is usually the priciest version. My father used to work in a machinary garage years ago. The differences are as follows afaik: The 4 cyl is a good engine but harder to start. It delivers somewhat smoother power. The normal 3 cyl was mostly like the 35x, but had chromed cylinder linings. Sounds good, but the chrome was much harder than the rings, meaning they wore and it burnt oil. The 35x had steel cyliner linings, which didn't wear the rings as quickly so didn't burn oil and maintained a better compression after long service than the other 3 cylinder model.
Value wise, a rough but running 35 (4 Cyl or 3 cyl) can be had for as little as €2000 give or take a few hundred. A mint restored 35x (show quality) could set you back as much as €10,000. A tidy 4 cyl/3 cyl will cost €3-4,000. A tidy 35x a grand or so more.
Be aware that many people used to buy 35x stickers for the normal 3 cyl version when they were respraying/painting them. It gave them kudos and added resale value. In the chassis (VIN) no. of a 35 the first letters are S,N,M. A 35x will have S,N,M,Y. It's on a plate rivetted on the console below the steering wheel (right side I think). If your buying one, not having the Y may be a bargaining tool if it's a fairly sound tractor otherwise.
Remember to check the lift and PTO are working. If they're not, a pricy tear down may be in order. Likewise the brakes and double clutch (or clutch, depending on model). Clutch, engage the PTO and make sure it's running. Then press the clutch till it's touching the step and check the PTO is stopped.
They're fairly bombproof if they're running right, but getting someone to start rooting at the internals could be expensive.
Otherwise, happy buying/selling. I used a 35x to put out fertilizer two weeks ago and they're still the business on damp land:D

Sounds to me like they threw in a can of block weld into the cooling system. This is the el cheapo way of "curing" a cracked block/head/damaged head gasket. I wouldn't be rushing to buy such a tractor.
