Losing C4/E4 when UPC DVR is connected

    Hi

When my UPC DVR is connected I cannot get C4 or E4 on the analogue service.

If I disconnect the DVR altogether I can get them.

Anyone got any ideas? I've tried retuning the TV but it will not pick up either channel.

Will I just have to bite the bullet and phone UPC and get an engineer to call out?

Not experiencing that here. I assume you're talking about using the analogue channels on other TVs in the house? How are they connected?

No, on the same tv as the dvr is connected to.

Why would you want to do that? The DVR has two tuners...

Does your tv give the frequency of C4/E4 when your tunning them in?

I know it does but at the weekend the DVR has stopped working - goes into the Setup routine every time I plug it in and it can't find any stations during the search. Will check it again this evening in case it was an issue that has been fixed by UPC today. If not I'll phone them tomorrow to see what the story is.

So I had to resort to the analogue service - I got the DVR last August and C4/E4 basically disappeared on the analgue service after that but never took any heed to it as the DVR was fine. So I started messing around with the cables and got C4/E4 working on the Analogue.

I gues I may just wire the inputs to the tv and DVR differently than usual.

My guess is that you have C4 and E4 tuned in on band I rather than the higher frequencies now available. It's possible the DVR interferes with band I on your TV. I found this table - note the bold I have used showing the duplicates:

    Frequencies for Dublin Cable

    Channel Frequency
    The Discovery Channel 48 MHz
    Channel 4 56 MHz
    E4 64 MHz
    RTE2 176 MHz
    TV3 184 MHz
    RTE 1 192 MHz
    UTV 200 MHz
    TG4 208 MHz
    BBC 1 216 MHz
    BBC 2 224 MHz
    Sky One 232 MHz
    Channel 6 256 MHz
    Nickelodeon/Paramount 264 MHz
    MTV 272 MHz
    Sky News 280 MHz
    LivingTV 408 MHz
    Setanta Sports 248 MHz
    E4 471 MHz
    The Discovery Channel 575 MHz
    Channel 4 543 MHz

Not sure whether it is still up-to-date, it was posted over a year ago, but it would be worth retuning your analogue C4 and E4 to the higher frequencies to see if it solves the issue. Do it with the DVR on, so that the TV doesn't "find" the lower frequencies for C4 and E4.

It's not just your box, I think there's some kind of high pass filter in the passthrough path on the DVR that filters out the lower BAND I frequencies.

In SOME places the higher frequencies are available, so you could try retuning. They're not available here in Bray (at least not the last time I looked), but then now I have the DVR I never use the analogue service any more, so I'm not too bothered.

Alternatively just use a splitter between the TV and the DVR.

I thought they had to move all the channels off Band I to make room for broadband? They've been gone in Limerick since around the time Channel 6 started.

Actually does the DVR use the broadband? It seems to have an IP address, MAC address, etc. And then there's that elusive ethernet port on the back...

Have you entered the code "131" for Dublin. Maybe thats why the box isn't finding any channels.
