Work from home policy from Employer

    Hi guys,

My employer has a rule that if you work there 2 years, you can have the option of working from home for 2 days a week.

Now, this is normally used by people who live a commuting distance away. I live 3 miles away, but am thinking of moving in with gf who lives 60 miles away.

What i am wondering is, would the employer view this as taking the biscuit if i asked for the use of this scheme. You have to put these applications in writing etc, but feasibility-wise i think it would work. I havent asked yet; i will be there 2 years come July.

Has anyone else any opinions from experience on what employers attitude to such matters is?

If the rule exists then it exists for all. Many people I worked with in a multinational were far from 60 km from work, one was like yourself;just down the road. Unless there is a requirement for you to be in work all the time I can't see why not. Best thing to do is ask.

if you can do your job as well from home then they wont care. only prob will be if something goes wrong for any reason with what your doing it may be your working from home that is seen as the problem but thats unlikley to happen

we can work from home or anywhere else.
plenty of people live within walking distance and work from home one day a week.

the employer wont care where you live or work from as long as you do the work.
