not sure if this is the right forum for this but here goes.

I'm currently working in an industry which isn't regulated and am finding that despite being well-qualified and experienced people aren't rewarded accordingly. I don't know much about these matters and I was wondering if anyone knows how industries get regulated - is there a procedure? Does it have to be brought to someone's attention before anything is done about it?

    Any info is appreciated.

    What industry?
What aspect of the industry do you want regulated?
Why will regulating this aspect of the industry protect vunerable stakeholders? EG FDA regulates pharma companies in order to protect those who use the products from death. I think if you want your industry regulated their must be a really good reason for it. Or else no one will obey the regulations and the government wont enforce the regulations.

Also i dont see you geting more money after regulating the industry.

I really don't know anything about it and from what you've posted it seems that regulation isn't the answer - it's English Language Teaching. A lot of people have said that conditions would improve if it were regulated. Some of the issues are things such as being paid for teaching hours but not for preparation, corrections etc, being paid by the hour means no security & no pay for holidays/sick days. Thanks for the info though.
