    hi,
my dads old golf has finger marks on the exterior paintwork. the appear to be under the lacquer/wax?
any ideas on best to remove these, would a good t-cut do the job?its only a 96, so not too worried.

    thanks.

If the marks are under the lacquer nothing will remove them, only fix is a respray.

is there no type of cutting compound that will remove the top layers?

If the marks are under the lacquer no there is nothing that will take them out, if you remove the lacquer then the surrounding lacquer/paint will start to flake away leading to a respray.

If the marks are in the lacquer, you might be able to remove them with a good compound, steer clear of t-cut, it's rubbish. Try meguiars scratch x, if this does not help you could try to machine polish them out with an aggressive compound.
You will have to get a bodyshop to do this if you don't know anyone with an orbital buffer or rotary polisher.
