is there any good make of plasma tv that can be bought in the north and used in the south on basic ntl pipe, normally the northern tvs dont have the vhf tuner in them and so are no good for me was just wondering if any company released the same tv north and south as id imagine it would be cheaper to buy it up north if they did

any tv up the north will not have a vhf tuner. if you want a vhf tuner you will need to buy down south.

That wouldn't be true, some brands do have a VHF tuner, even for UK market. Mainly because some companies presumably find it just as handy to use on tuner throughout Europe, which can then be changed to your requirement during tuning.

I'm pretty sure Sony for example have one standard tuner for all Europe. When doing initial setup, you're requested to enter the country you're in, if you enter UK, the software will disable the VHF tuning side and have tuning configured for PAL I.

The only real way to find out is to see the TV in action, and perhaps get into the menu and see if it tunes the VHF scale.

Argos.co.uk list TV's with VHF/UHF tuner in the specifications as such.

On a similar theme (sorry for the hijack!), if buying from a site such as http://www.directtvs.co.uk/, would you have to verify each and every tv with them to ensure it has a VHF tuner before you bought it?

    Steve.

    If unsure, yes.

Might be a good idea to check the manual for the models you're interested in. Most big companies have downloadable manuals for their products on their websites. Usually the back pages have the Specifications.
