Hair volume troubles.

No matter what I try, my hair always falls flat. I've tried the various shampoos out there but none of them seem to work. I've also tried blow drying my hair upside down but it goes all flat again as soon as I straighten it.

I know there has been a lot of debate about the whole D4 look and it's not a style I'm trying to go for but they generally manged to get a lot of volume in their hair, is there some magic trick that I'm unaware of?

    Any advice would be appreciated.:o

BTW: My hair is quite long, about half way down my back if that makes a difference but it has a lot of layers in it so it's not too weighed down.

you wanna put some volumising mousse into the roots when your blowdrying it and use big fat rollers after it just at the top of your head to lift the roots again and fix with hairspray.

They key to the D4 look is backcombing and hairspray as far as I know. After you've blow dried your hair and straightened it, get a comb and backcomb the whole top section in small sections. Once you've backcombed a piece, hairspray it at the back. Once you're done, use a soft brush to smooth over the top layer a little.
    Hairspray the whole thing again.

Put in velcro rollers the night before and you will have heaps of volume the next day

My problem is that I get too much volume. I've got medium length hair (male) and am blond so it looks stupid with loads of volume.

Without starting another thread, what can I use to reduce the volume? I've been using some great shampoo's but still there's volume. Now I'm using the Simple range shampoo... still volume.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Thanks a million for the advice but it sounds like an awful lot of work so maybe I'll just stick to flat hair until I find an easier solution.

Kitty_N , I know the feeling, you did'nt say if you have fine hair as I have. Saw or read somewhere that the 'stars' wash their hair the night before a major event, having slept on it, the heat whatever gives more bulk to the hair the following day. My hairdresser is the first ever to admit that she has fine hair like myself, thanks to the tricks of the trade her hair always looks good. She advised me to always use a good 'round' brush. Lift the hair at the roots and blow downward to prevent split hairs, move the dryer away for a sec or two, keeping the brush in place, then blowdry and lift brush under the hair, move the dryer away for a sec or two, it must have something to do with the cooling effect and heat, keep repeating for one or two more tries, it worked for me.
