External Hard drive issues with Time Machine! HELP!

OK, i'm a serious mac fan, and am currently writing this post on my iBook G4(2004-05). Which i hope to upgrade to a MacBook in the summer.

But anyway, i have an issue. I have an 80GB Lacie external HDD that i use for backing up etc. Before Leopard, and Time Machine, i was able to simply drag and drop all my music etc onto it and i knew it was safe. I could see al the files in their folders and i liked it. And i also was able to plug it into our windows desktop and transfer files or whatever.

But now, since i began using time machine, my windows pc has no longer been able to recognise my HDD. And i can no longer "see" my files on the HDD through Finder. Also, if i plug in my HDD i dont think time machine is working properly.

How can i reformat my Lacie back to the way it was??? Or what would anyone else do?

PS..... this has been a problem for a while, i only recently discovered this board! Cheers

Time Machine requires a HFS+ formatted drive to work. Windows can't read HFS+. The reason it worked before is because the drive was formatted to FAT32 which both OSX and Windows can read.

So if you want to use the drive with Windows again you'll have to format it to FAT32 using Disk Utility but you won't be able to use Time Machine with it anymore.

Yep..... thanks for that...... time machine is no loss for me anyway. Just converted it and works brilliantly. I think i did the same thing with my old ipod when i was putting rockbox on it. Thanks again
