Where will pro wrestling be in ten years?

Will it still be going strong?

stronger imo, the next great era of pro-wrestling in america might not be that far away

triple h will still be in the title match at every WM, that is somewhat of a given

It's a question which I have asked myself a number of times, especially over the last year with all of the bad publicity surrounding WWE.I found myself asking the same question only last week during Ric flairs farewell address on RAW while watching the wrestlers who had lined the ramp.

Simply put,I think that the next few years are going to be critical for pro wrestling. With MMA on the rise, steroid allegations facing the business and older stars (Sting,Undertaker,Michaels etc.) retiring in the coming years, its going to be a tough few years.

Pro wrestling will always be here.Whether it's going to remain as strong as it has is anyone's guess

Who was The Rock in '96?, he had just started. 10 years later he had became one of the best workers and most loved wrestlers of all time and by then he had retired. 10 years is a long time in Wrestling.

If Vince is alive in ten years it'll be stronger. Otherwise I don't know

Triple H - now known as the legend of legends - will be in the main event of Wrestlemania 34 going for his record 25th World Title. His opponent will be Captain Charisma himself Christian.

Randy Orton is now the most professional guy in the company and a shop steward in the Pro Wrestling Trade Union.

Bret still hasn't forgiven Shawn Michaels.

John Cena is now firmly established as one of the world's best wrestlers. Fans still hate him though.

Stone Cold still acts as a guest referee in the company. Kurt Angle is now back in WWE as a manager having left TNA which imploded in on itself when the company forked out all its resources on bringing in David Beckham.

ECW is now called ECW/TNA. There was an invasion angle but it flopped.

The Rock has now cut all ties with WWE following his Oscar-winning performance in the movie adaptation of the play I Keano.

Vince still runs the company. Yes he still likes big, immobile men.

Maria Kanellis meanwhile left the company in 2011 and moved to Dublin, Ireland where she fell in love with a nice guy...

If the unthinkable happens(Vince dies) we wont have another boom in the next ten years. If it happens the WWE will go down the tubes and the whole business would suffer.

If they'd only do something with him, Kenny Dykstra could be a huge name in 10 years.

I reckon MVP with be a massive star in the future. Maybe 10 years is too long, but sometime in the future he'll be a genuine main eventer.

I agree with Rosie, that the next great era won't be too far away. In ten years Cena, Orton, and Batista will still be headlining Mania's but they will be very experienced. MVP, Morrisson and I think AJ will be up there (he will leave TNA eventually). Hopefully Edge and Christian will still be around on the same company. Jericho and JBL will be the greatest commentary team ever. They will do away with GM's and Shane will run Smackdown while Trips and Steph run Raw. ECW will become developmental

I very much doubt that a 50 year old Batista will be headlining Wrestlemania

If you look at 1998, there are very few guys still around now. And if you compare 1998 with 1988 there's even fewer still. My point is that there's going to be a completely new generation in 10 years time and not many of the current guys will be a part of it

Batista is 40?? Jesus Christ. He's risen in my estimation to keep himself at such great shape at that age and not lose speed. I had him down as 33 max

Though if you think about it those from the '98 WCW and WWE scene are still on top, Y2J, HHH, Kane, HBK and 'Taker and Nash, Steiner, Booker and Sting in TNA. So in 10 years time, we will have a new generation but we will still probably have Edge, Orton, Christian, Cena, Styles and Joe around.

People are always saying how Michaels and Undertaker will be retiring soon, but in 10 years Edge and Christian will be older than they are now. Nothing is a certainty, and given that a guy like Edge will have earned more than Shawn by 40, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires within 10 years with his health intact

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

I think Edge has slowed down his style substantially since coming back from his first major injury(though that might be because he is a heel) so I don't see why he couldn't see why he couldn't keep going into his mid forty's. Look at Finlay, he is 49 and one of WWEs top performers.

Tell that to the people who keep on insisting that Michaels and Taker are retiring soon!

I don't see any reason why Undertaker can't keep going. He doesn't have to retire just because he is 44, if he can keep going health wise and continue to put on quality matches then why not. Same for HBK.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 332 ✭✭BlackMamba

I can see Taker going for at least 10 years, depending on his health and other matters (i.e. family). Ditto for HBK.
MVP will become a major player with a heavyweight title reign(s) under his belt.
Ted DiBiase Jr will be in the WWE and making a name for himself in the Intercontinental title division.
Nattie Neidhart will become a big part in the women's division. I see good things for her.
    ECW will become developmental territory.
Vince will still be around but in a less active role. Shane would probably come to the front as will Stephanie

finlays 49?! f*ckin hell! i knew he wasnt a springchicken but i didnt think he was that old!

Wrestling will be interesting to see in 10 years, when Vince has retired and Stephanie has taken over the business. Shane has expressed no interest in taking over the business and enjoys the media department.

Of course, HHH will be EVERYWHERE, and maybe HBK and Undertaker will be involved backstage, but will no longer be in the ring.

Hopefully some of these upcoming superstars show some appreciation and zest for the business and we could see some great wrestlers feuding over the titles in the near future. And I'd say the majority of the WWE events will be taking place overseas.

I don't think Vince McMahon will ever retire. Certain people are ready to retire before they even start working while others despise the idea because they love what they do. Vince falls into the second category I think.

He'd be in his early 70's in 10 years time which is quite old I guess to have such a challenging job. Other have done it though like Alan Greenspan who was head of the Federal Reserve and he was in his late 70's to early 80's before he retired.

The only thing that will stop Vince running his company is a serious illness or death in my opinion.

i wouldnt say hes one of the "top" performers.
in 10 years time wrestlers like mvp, mr. kennedy, hardys, CM punk etc will be main eventing and winning heavyweight titles on the two brands ppv main events. look for hhh to take more of a creative role along side the mcmahons...

they could easilly do it, i think croker would be ideal for wrestlemania....how can we start a petition?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,045 ✭✭✭Vince135792003

i think croker would be ideal for wrestlemania.

It would not be for a whole load of reasons. Firstly, WWE steers clear of doing ppv's in Europe because with time delay, they risk doing poorly on ppv. For example, UFC typically don't do as well with their shows over here in terms of ppv buys.

Secondly, the GAA don't hand the pitch out for free and wouldn't be welcoming the WWE with open arms like Miami did this year. Combine that with the fact they would probably have to sell tickets cheaper (meaning less revenue) here to make sure the show is a sell out than they would if they held it in the US.

    Then there's the weather.

Basically, it just wouldn't be worth the risk. I'm all for it though!

everyone has their price, especially the Grab All Association and ithink itll sell out regarless as the millions of european fans wudnt mind coming to ireland to see it, hell the receipts they'd get from ireland, NI and england alone would twice fill croker so ticket prices/revenue would not be a problem for the gaa!

ye the weather is a problem but they could work around it im sure!

It's not just about filling it. It's about filling it at the highest prices possible. And yeah every organisation has their price but I'd imagine, the GAA's is quite high leaving aside the value of the dollar versus the euro.

Assuming however they can get a 5 million dollar plus gate from it, that only leaves the big problem of pay per view buys. And, the weather!

I don't think we'll ever get WM in Ireland, we'd be lucky if they got it in the UK.

As for wrestling in 10 years time:

In a perfect world, Shane would be running WWE. Steph would be a stay at home mom and Trips would be head writer (not a wrestler though, just writer).
The product would be superb and smaller guys would be in the main event.
MVP, Kennedy (...Kennedy), CM Punk, both Hardys, Morrisson, Edge, Christian, Samoa Joe and a few other whose names elude me at the moment would make up the main event scene.
There would be one brand, five titles (WWE, IC or US, Tag-Team, Womens and some kind of Welterweight/X-division/3rd tier title) and two 2 hour shows each week, Monday Night RAW and Saturday Night's Main Event.
There would be 6 bi-monthly PPVs - Royal Rumble in January, WrestleMania in March/April, Night of Champions in June, SummerSlam in August, Judgement Day in October and Survivor Series in November. I know they are not evenly spread, but who cares.
TNA will still be around, as will ROH, but WWE will be by far and away the better product.

Now, in reality, things will probably be the same as it is now.
