subtitle extraction

    hey all was just wondering does anyone know of a programme that can extract subtitles from a video file, i know about mkv extract and sub rip but can sub rip do both soft and hard subs and is it easily used and is there any one for other kinds of video files like avi or mpeg
    preferably one thats easy to use too hahahah :o

    thanks for the links will review it later well i dont know if the subs are hard coded or not i dont think they are

    If the subtitles are selectable in whatever you're using to play the videos, they are soft coded. Otherwise they are most likely hard coded, especially if there's any fancy animation or colours in them (common with some anime fansubs - yuck IMO).

    What kind of videos are they? AVI?
