To get the sound I like from my amp (MARKBASS CMD 102P http://www.thomann.de/ie/markbass_cmd_102p.htm ) I use alot of gain and most of the time the little light beside the knob is flashing telling me im using too much. Is this really harmful to my amp or can I ignore it? Im not overkilling on the gain, but it is enough to have this light go off

Well its a clip light. When it lights up your clipping your input signal and you should adjust the gain to stop that.

If you read the manual on the cab it says this. If its only happening every now and again then a small reduction of the gain will sort this out.

Turn up the output volume and turn down the gain until it stops clipping. Clipped waveforms are what blow tweeters.
