As is mentioned inthe title; I'm using Pro Engineer wildfire 3.0 to do a project. I'm having trouble inputting two features.

1/ I can't seem to find how to write on a part file. below is what i'm to print in 3-D on the emblam. could anyone give me instructions?

2/ Also, how do I create internal threading on a hollow cylindrical part file?

    much appreciated for your time.

1.) Create a new extrude feature and then when your doing the sketch there is a text type option on the tool bar. Type the text in the sketch and then extrude it. You might have to do some playing around to get the curve effect but that's the basis of it.

2.) I think there is a thread tool in one of the menus but I've never used it.

thanks a million paulin, got the text on the piece no problem. perfect.

had a look around in pro e and on google for the threads. they seem to suggest (Insert -> cosmetic -> thread) cant for the life of me figure it out. can anyone help me with this please

i think for the thread u have to do a helical sweep of some sort. i think that how ye do it.

ya, I tried (helical sweep -> protrusion) aswell. I'm getting stuck when it asks my for "parameter"...no idea what that means!

i cant remeber off hand how to do it now. if its a parameter which you enter in at the bottom its more than likely the pitch. what are u trying to draw. i u send me dimensions i cud draw it for u

Theres actually a whole heap of parts which I need to thread both internally and externally. So getting you to draw a specific part isnt going to help me in the long run. But if you could maybe draw me a basic cylinder with external or internal threads on it and send me the .prt file by e-mail, that would be great. That way I can see what you've done.

below is something I need to make with external threading. (all the parts I see at a quick glance which need internal threads are quite complex). Should be the same principle anyway.

Dont go outta your way to do this now! Thanks a million.

to do it i properly i wud need to know the pitch of the thread and the depth of the thread.

thats actually all im given. It's notreally tht important what dimensions i put in. I suppose whatever the standard i for that diameter should be perfect

say, both thread and depth of 1mm

i have it drawn, send me your email so i cna send it to u. i dont have winzip so cant post it here

got it, took a bit of playing around with (and heading inta college to use the engineering computers, cause I only have the student version :pac:)

but was worth it, got the basics down now, just have to refine the details a bit. thanks a million for your help etxp

I've got another question. This time on gears.

as u can see from above, the dimensions im given arnt very good. for a gear that im to draw, im given external diameter, and number of teeth. are there any equations that I can use to design the gear preoperly using just what im given?

I forget my applied mechanics already

edit: i just realised im going to have to translate motion through a series of gears in a working assembly....uch
