Swing trainers

Hi, Ive played a couple of times and each time I have shot over 120:eek:

Shocking I know. Anyway the summer is coming up and Im gonna start playing more. I intend to get some lessons during the summer but I would like to be able to do a bit of practice at home. Now my short game is'nt really the problem. I played a fair bit of Pitch and putt before and I know how to get up and down and put, plus I can practice them easily at home.

I want something that will help my full swing so I was looking at some training aids.

I came across two that I thought might work well together:

    http://www.refinergolf.com/

    http://theimpactball.com/

Now I am not naive enough to believe either of those things are anything revlotuionary that will get me shooting in the 80's overnight but I figure with the impact ball I will get a feeling for the position my arms should be in and with the refiner club I will get a god idea of tempo. Do people think they would help or are they just cheap gimmicks that could do more harm than good?

If not can anyone recommend any other swing trainers they have had success with. Thanks.

TBH I think the best thing you could do is get a course of lessons and spend time practicing what the pro recommends. I feel that most swing trainers are gimmicky and if you are shooting 120+ with a decent short game then your swing is probably in pretty bad order and lacking in fundamentals.

I wouldnt go as far to call my short game decent Par72 but I dont think thats were Im losing the majority of my strokes.

Its just pure inconsistency tbh. When Im on the driving range I would be happy with the majority of my shots (straight and a fair distance) but when I get out on the course it just goes to pot Im losing strokes on drop shots and on those distances between the tee of and pitching range. This is only based on three outings spaced a few month apart but like I said its frustrating when you have played a fair bit of p&p and are able to swing the club fine (Im only 22).

I take your advice about seeing what the pro recommends. Would probably be better before I waste my money on anything.

Hey man, some swing trainers do work and work pretty well, when you get yourself a few lessons with your PGA Pro, He/She will be able to recommend a good device for you and give you a few drills to work on at home. Honestly lessons are the best way to go. In my own humble opinion.

I've yet to break 100 and generally hit under 110.

Got 2 lessons lately and was suprised what I was doing right. The pro has made me change my grip slightly and I'm standing closer to the ball and slightly forward (the ball is more towards my right foot). Initial driving range shoots are looking good but can't wait to get to the course.

I've also got rid of my colt 10 year old starter set and bought a set of Calaway irons recommended by the teaching pro.
