How would one avoid the town of Navan coming from Duleek and wanting to get on the Athboy/Mullingar road? Was stuck in traffic there for about half an hour yesterday and don't fancy doing that again! I've far enough to drive without delays of half an hour if they can be avoided. Same with Longford town. Is it necessary to travel through the town to get on the Roscommon road???

possible solution head down the n2 til about a mile past kilmoon x. Turn right through clonalvey into ratoath .Then either head to fairyhouse x and over to trim and on to athboy or go from ratoath to dunshaughlin and on to trim via kilmessan .best of luck anyway navan is a monument to bad planning !!

Had I know where any of these places were..........ha, I'm from the Wesht so not too familiar with it all. I think I can turn left and go through a place called Johnstown or something, and then to Trim, and then to Athboy perhaps??

Yeah, to go through Johnstown you should turn left coming into Navan at the Campus filling Station and continue straight to the N3.At the N3 turn right, go accross the bridge and then turn left just before the "Old Bridge Inn/Willows Restaurant" go up this road a few hundred metres and turn right.

Follow this road to the Trim road junction and go straight accross then at the next crossroads turn right this will bring you back towards Navan, at the first set of lights (beside the VW garage turn left and this road will bring you to the Athboy road at the new roundabout, turn left and head for Athboy.

    Hope this helps

Thanks very much, just wondering, does this add a lot onto the journey or is it worthwhile traffic wise? I'm travelling to Roscommon kinda area and this is the way I go. Someone suggested the M50 but I can't see Friday evening traffic being very kind to me at 4pm!!

No it adds very little distance wise (probably less than a mile extra) and should be much quicker than going through the town, it should only be about ten minutes from one side to the other.
