    Hi ,
I know this may sound embarrising(if i can spell it right).but i am suffering very bad with sore nipples.
Just in case you were wondering i am male,36 young, and starting back running after 18 years off. oh yeah i was 18 1/2 stone when i started back.
At the moment i can do 6 miles under the hour at will ( now i am 17 1/2 ).
But i was out the other night and i thought i vaselined enough my nipples but when i got home and got into the shower the pain was unnatural. they went white, and a little blood. i thought i was having a heart attack.
No dont worry i am not , i am just wondering has any one the same problems and how did you solve the problem.
I have my first road race on may 11 in Clonmel ,Ballygowan 10 km.

Put band aids on your nips before you go out running. That'll stop teh chafing.

I'd go for bandaids myself if needed. Luckily my nips never bothered me when running

Go into any chemist & get 3M Micropore surgical tape. About €2 for a roll of it.
Put on a little dab of vaseline on the nipple (makes it easier to remove the tape) and stick a length of the tape over it.
Stays on for hours (better than bandaids etc) and was a real lifesaver for me cos it's fair sore!

I haven't gone for the bandage option yet, but I find choice of t-shirt plays a big part. Go for a special running top rather than a cotton t-shirt/football jersey, they seem to let the sweat out better. I heard a horror story about a guy who ran the Dublin Marathon in a Monaghan GAA jersey - with the strategically placed crest and all - doesn't bare thinking about really.

A loose top that 'bounces' also does damage. Have a top that ish toight loike a tioger will help as well.

i use a dry fit tight under armour top, it wicks the sweat to the outside of the top, great piece of kit, and i never have sore nipples when i use it.

I used to suffer from this a bit but I also bought an under-armour top which i wear under the singlet/ T-shirt. It hasn't been a problem since.

same as the 2 posts above ,an under armour top is essential

Can't remember where i read this.... but some runners apparently put few drops of super glue on their nipples (make sure it's dry before you put your top on!), as this will provide a protective film/layer.
    Never tried myself.

    That just sounds so wrong....

I wouldn't go with the bandage approach as they can come off. Vaseline, body glide or an under armour top will sort you out.

I'm a bit cheap so I just use a 2" piece of duct tape with a little tissue stuck on over the nipple. Its a little painful coming off though:D
