Rome including Vatican and Papal Audience

    Hi,
I am bringing my mother to Rome in May for her birthday. She is very religious and would love to see the Vatican and attend an audience with the pope. I have flights picked out for 300.

I've found a hotel beside the Vatican which seems like good value for 417 euro - https://www.ghrshotels.com/net/roma/hotel/torrerossaparkhotel/overview.html?source=-torre+rossa+park+hotel. Any opinions or recommendations? I am trying to keep it as cheap as possible without staying in a dump or too far away.

I am looking at this website for an audience with the pope - http://www.myvaticantour.com/vatican_papal_audience.aspx. 64 euro seems like very good value seeing as we will get to see the pope as well as other parts of the tour. Has anybody first hand experience of this and recommendations?

    I've a few other questions:
How much roughly would a taxi cost to get to the city centre from Da Vinci airport?
I assume most people who work in restuarants and taxis have English?

Can't answer most of your questions, but 2 things:

    1. Yes restaurant employees have pretty good English. The place is full of tourists.

    2. I don't know about tours, but most people have to queue for HOURS to get in. We went there at about 2/3pm one day and the queue was around probably 3 or 4 corners, we would have been queuing at least 3 hours there. Came back the next morning at 7am and the queue was the exact same!!! Be prepared to queue, basically. If your mother is elderly give that some thought and maybe bring some sort of improvised/fold up chair, and lots of water and fans. We didn't bother staying in the end.
