Interview- Sports Shop

Howdy, I'm looking for a spot of advice..

I have an interview for a new Lifestyle Sports branch next week, and I'm not really sure what to wear. Most people I have talked to said to wear casual clothes, i.e. sports wear, as that's the type of thing I'll be wearing if I get the job, that's what they sell etc.

Is this advisable, or should I go for the whole shirt and tie type affair?

It's just a summer job during college, so it's not a management position or anything.

    Any advice appreciated!!:D

As a person who worked in a sports shop for 5 and a half years part-time, it always seemed that the person who turned up to interviews in a shirt and tie got the job over the person who didn't. Interviews were held in office at back of the shop so we always got a view of interviewees as they passed through the shop. Dress well for the interview, it certainly won't hurt your chances of getting the job.

its hard to know what exactly an interviewer in a sports shop would be looking for esp. for a summer position, they could want someone to blend in with them but look at it this way

candidate in casual clothes doesn't give off an impression they have made a serious effort to stand out from the crowd
    whereas
candidate who dresses smart (shirt/tie whatever) gives the appearance that they have made the extra effort and attention to detail to impress the potential employer, they want the job more and thats what most interviewers are looking for in their ideal candidate

even if its a summer position in a place like a sports shop i think you should go that extra step and dress formally with a shirt at least, better to be safe than sorry. you will also feel that bit extra confident in the interview dressed smart, just dont wear something too flashy!

    good luck :)

I always think a suit is the safest option. Worst case scenario they think you look cute!

always go for a suit if you are not sure. it's best to over-dress than turn up looking like you don't give a hoot about the job.

I doesn't matter what the job is for whether it's managment or scrubbing floors always wear a suit and tie. It gives the impression that you give a damn. I've worked in retail for 3 years total and my managers have always commented on people who didn't make an effort "this guy had a basball cap on, I couldn't see his face" etc..
