Hi. I’ve noticed that organisers new to this have been introducing themselves so I’m going to follow the trend. Hello, I’m Ciarán Moloney. I set up the Irish Deaf Poker society last year to run tournaments for those who use Irish Sign Language. I'd like to inform you that on the 3rd May, we are having our inaugural Irish Open Deaf Poker Championship in sponsorship with paddypowerpoker.com. You do not have to be Deaf to play at our tournaments; we welcome anyone who wishes to play at our tournaments. If you are interested in playing but you are concerned by the fact you don't know Irish Sign Language-do not worry, for the only two signs you need to use during playing poker are for “raise” (hiking thumb up) and “call” (making a “c” shape with your hand as per 45px-Sign_language_C.svg.png) which are simple signs that can be learned in a matter of seconds. If you have any queries whatsoever, please do not hesitate to leave a comment or pm me.
    Thank you for your time.
    Ciarán

    Hi Ciaran

Is there any chance that there will be a short master class in signing prior to the event ?

    particularly for dealers

    You playing Clamper? Excellent! :D

It might help if you distribute the ISL alphabet sheet to the dealers - no harm for them to practice before the day. A lot of the signs are based on alphabet handshapes, so knowing this beforehand will make it a lot easier. To be honest, dealers should have nothing to worry about... Deaf players will make themselves well understood... Just don't click your fingers or whistle, or worse: chew gum!

    Good luck to the IDP!

just wanted to say well done to ciaran and all involved in the setting up of this tourney, ran really well and I think every1 really enjoyed themselves. dealing presented no problems as the basic signs were easy to learn. 46 runners in the end, quite an impressive turnout. Cheers to The Clamper too for looking after us all.

We got 46 runners for this yesterday. Most of our players don’t play any other tournament apart from the self-dealt ones we have which are usually played on table-tops. So it was really satisfying for me to have them come into the room and see them get excited about playing on proper casino tables with dealers at them. So I'd like to say a big thank you to our sponsors, Paddypower for enabling us to provide that effect! Also I’d like to thank all our dealers and the clamper for their work yesterday; it was great to see them use the basic signs during the tournament. Congratulations goes to Keenan Byrne who took down this tournament to bring home €920! Photos will be uploaded onto our gallery soon.

    Cheers!

What he said basically. Dealing wasn't difficult at all, and the tournament went very smoothly so well played to all involved.

Black 11 by the way :(

I actually did go to the Fitz believe it or not, I questioned my sanity when I got a bus to the other side of the city centre and was going home from that side but I made the trek out anyway. Determined to either hit or get a fiver worth of coke out of their machine I achieved one of my targets anyway...

    Well I Enjoyed It Anyway

A Great Bunch Of People Having A Bit Of Craic

Saw Some Very Brave Play And Had A Fun Day Out For Everyone

I Have No Doubt That With It Being On The Same Day As Jp's Event Had An Effect On Numbers, Even So, 46 Players Was Just Nice

Next Time It Will Be Bigger

Thanks To Ciaran For Getting This Together

Count On My Support For The Next One

    Derek

    Well done Ciaran!

I had a great day playing (holding 53k at one point when av. stack was 10k :p 'priceless') ...taking down 2nd place for €552 was worth it! Keeno played a brilliant game, from starting the final table with the 2nd lowest stack, a well deserved win!

Great dealers/TD - nooooo problems communicating at all - keep up the signs! Roll on to 2009... Goooo IDP! :pac:
