    Hi,

how does one go about determining if customs have seized a package or not, and for what reason?

    Thanks.

They generally don't seize items, unless they are illegal, like prescribed medicines. If it's a standard item, and over the customs limit (22 or 45 euro) then they can hold it for inspection, valuation and issue of a customs and VAT bill. You generally don't find out until they contact you and unless you have a tracking number for the parcel, there's probably no way to find out in advance.

    Thanks jor el.

Bloody typical level of transparency I'd expect off government.

Nothing of the sort Conar! That's just asking for trouble.

Newbusiness- packages from overseas are taking improbable amounts of time to arrive (particularly those sent in the regular parcel post). This has been the case since An Post took on external contractors for a lot of their work, and have effectively hived off their operations in this manner. They claim to be focusing on business mail- which is why international and local packages are suffering- at the end of the day its the consumer who is suffering. There really isn't anything that you can do. If you have not received any notification from C&E- I would assume that its still en-route to you, until such time as it arrives or you are informed otherwise.

    Thanks smccarrick,

I'm now thinking the courier lost it!

I have the supplier checking with them.

If you have a tracking number, check it. If the item is still showing that it is with customs then phone the customs and give them the tracking number. They will be able to tell you what the delay is. If the goods are copies or something, or ilegal in any way, they will be destroyed by customs. So best for you to check with customs or you will end up pulling your hair out wiating.
