    Hi all,

Buying a laptop shortly and need some advice on what sort to get. Priorities as follows:

1- Need it to run Sopcast and similar live streaming applets smoothly. I do a lot of internet betting and watch soccer, N.F.L. etc. online.

2- I'm looking for a light, portable laptop and would prefer if the screen is 12" or less.

    3- Decent battery life.

4- Will be using Core FTP and similar for minor web development.

I'm not really into gaming to be honest, so that's not a priority. Budget of around e700 euros but I'd like to go a bit cheaper to be honest. Am I asking too much for too little?! Thanks guys.

This 12.1" samsung has some good specs and is quite cheap. A little over budget but it's the cheapest on elara. It's €790 and they have a few in stock.

1.66 core 2 duo, 2GBs ram, 250GB hard drive and it says it has 6 hours battery life. I'd take the battery life with a pinch of salt. Pretty good specs for a 12" laptop. I'd say core ftp will run on it but just to be on the safe side do you know the minimum and recommended specs for it?

Have a look at the Dell Latitude D430.

They are tiny, very portable and will do what you want.

They are quite expensive though. They use the low power intel chips so will give good battery life but performance may not be as good as a core 2 duo.

Any 12.1" laptop decent spec on the market now will be pushing his budget so to the OP if you could stretch to in and around €1000 mark you'd have a few more options, namely like the D430 from Dell with good business NDB support included in the price.
Failing the ability to stretch the budget, either make some concessions about screen size and get a 14" or 15.4" Vostro with good specs for your original price budget, or run with the 12.1" Samsung that AC linked to as its pretty good for the price!

PC World have an Advent 12.1" for about 700 - Core 2, 2gb ram off the top of my head, though I'm unsure as to the quality of the battery...looks nice though, and Advent are generally respective machines.
