    Hey All,

i currently have a Nokia e61 on Vodafone bill pay. i happened to notice recently that my bill had gone up the last few months but my usage hadnt increased. when i investigated it i realised that i was being charged for some new email service which i had not requested nor had i ever used. i think it was called 'business internet email'. vodafone kindly cancelled the service for me and have since refunded the overpaid amount.

now, here is my problem. my bill was still a bit more than i would have expected so i decided to look at my daily usage and i notice that since January of this year, at 4:07am every morning my phone is logging onto live.vodafone.com and downloading approximately 54k at a cost of 34c a go. now this is happening every single day since january. i have gone through every setting on my phone and i cannot find anything. i have also called vodafone customer care and they say they cant do anything because it is a setting on the actual handset. now i know i defintily didnt change any email or internet settings and i am using the handset the exact same as i always have done. i have the phone about 18 months so i know it backwards at this stage.

so has anyone any ideas of what might be causing this, or more inportantly how do i stop it?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks in advance

can you check to see if there is an rss reader doing an update?
or perhaps the phone checking the firmware version?

yeah, something like an rss client seems plausible...
(e61 doesn't support ota fw update, yet)...
Or some other 3rd party apps - a "free" game, maybe - some of them download adverts at set intervals... Or lcg's jukebox checking for new version? Any prog you installed around the date in question?
Heck, I've had my e61 for 2 years, never experienced sth like that - nor "heard about it"...

    2 things:
put the e's simcard in another phone and see what happens at 4am... And put a prepay sim in the e61 and see what happens.

have you done a fw upgrade? Do it, if all else fails!
    Hm......
Weird! or turn flight mode on over night...

Maybe this app can help you:

    http://www.symbian-freeware.com/download-mconnection.html

You can use it to monitor data traffic of specific apps on your phone - or so it says on the tin (I havent tried it yet myself.)

    thanks for the replies lads.

i dont usually download games but i do like to play around with the occassional 3rd party application so i have downloaded some them in the past. i thought it might be one of these apps so i went through the phone and deleted as many of them as i could find. that was about a month ago but it still seems to be doing it. the funny thing is i have had my phone beside at the time it does it and the actual phone doesnt do anything, so it is defintily behind the scenes that it is happening. (i dont know if i was expecting it start doing the robot dance at 4:07am or what, i just thought for €10 a month i might see it do something).

my fw is up to date alright, well i checked it in the last month or 2 and it was up to date then anyway.

that is a very good idea about swapping the sim cards. i am going to try that tonight.

i am also going to download that program and monitor the traffic. it will be interesting to see what kind of movement there is during the night. (please dont be a porn dialler, please, please, please......)

thanks again lads. i will let you know how i get on.

    cheers
