I have to lol since this is coming from a 360 site.

Just wondering if any boardsies have got this problem with their systems.

At least my 360 hasn't RROD yet, although I only got it at Xmas.

    Heres the Link

Well the article stated that the PS3 forums are closed, I can confirm that much but nothing else... Google has quite a few hits on this.

This thread also reports the same issue.

Here's a Youtube video showing the problem.

Looks fairly ****e now tbh. Firmware problem methinks. Just wait till the store is updated and there is a new firmware. They (should) sort this.

Read about this on eurogamer earlier today. Sony deny knowing about any issues with it. Some are saying that this could be the PS3's RROD equilvent. I myself have heard nothing about it until today though, so I assume it's nothing major.

I was looking this up earlier today ,

Its all over the place at the moment with lots of speculation , no definite cause and people are reporting everything from burnt out laser diodes to firmware updates to dust would you believe.

It'll be a few weeks before the rumour mill settles down and something concrete is out there ,

As its only flaring up now , it would seem most likely to me that a firmware update is causing it , but thats just a guess , best to wait and see what happens when the dust settles.

According to this the error has actually been around for quite a while.

Perhaps the latest update has increased the frequency or maybe it's just been grabbed by the news sites now? Apparently it's at nowhere near the rate of the RROD XBox problem and is well within acceptable limits, although I imagine I'd find it unacceptable if it happened to me. :p

EDIT: In fact, the video I posted earlier was posted to YouTube on November 28 2007 so it's in no way a new error or solely caused by the last firmware update!

    Xbox fansites, you mean? :p

I've seen precious little actual complaints about this in the many threads that have popped up on different forums, since Xbox sites started reporting it. It sounds like a storm in a teacup. I'm sure there are people who have had this problem, but extrapolating from that some RROD-level problem is a stretch.

As for it being the RROD equivalent , there is nothing so far to suggest its a hardware problem , digging through the trash out there at the moment suggests if anything that its a software issue , which is straightfoward enough to fix.

The RROD on xbox is down to badly designed heat management and overheated components , i.e a solid hardware fail.

The upshot of this is that if you do get that PS3 error repaired , once fixed it will stay fixed , unlike the RROD problem. Futhermore , if it is a software issue , then there will surely be a download at some point in the future and the console wont even need to be shipped in order to repair it , the unit has any number of inputs that could be used to apply a SW fix.

From the top of my head, I think I recall reading in the Eurogamer article that although the error is not related to the hardware, it will need to be replaced if it occurs.

I myself don't believe this is a major problem. I haven't seen it on my PS3 nor have any of my friends.

It happened to my first PS3 a few weeks ago. Not long after that code came up, the disc drive stopped working. Take your console back to the shop if it's still within the one year warranty. If it's out of warranty you will have to send it to sony for replacement. That cost's 250 euros.
