Driver Issues (XP SP2)

My brother's computer was running slowly etc and he decided to reinstall XP SP2 on it with the disc and product key etc. It all seemed to be fine except he doesn't seem to have the necessary drivers for the computer. It does not recognise the wired router or the on board audio device. Everything else seems to work fine (i.e. it's showing up as working in the device manager).

The computer is a Dell Dimension 5150. Can I just go to the dell website, download these drivers, put them on a memory stick and load them onto his computer? Also, will I find something on Dell's site to set up the internet connection or will I have to look somewhere else? I'm a Windows noob, any replies are appreciated.

Check out the website for the router and you should get the driver there.
The dell site should have the drivers for the onboard audio.

You should be able to get the audio driver from dell's support site but may have to go to the router manufacturer's website to get the drivers/software for that (unless you still have the CD-ROM that came with the router ) . Is the modem ok ? If it is you can connect your ethernet cable directly from PC to the modem . That will get the internet connection back on that PC (though obviously wouldnt be routed to any other computers/printer etc )

Hmm, I'm a bit stuck atm. I downloaded the router drivers, audio drivers etc but now in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark on the PCI card even though I've successfully installed the driver and have restarted the computer. Any ideas?

I had the same prob my self, under the thread replacing vista with xp,
I found the dell site great i presume you did the usuall , find your system etc?
    search for drivers ,
If there is a few drivers for your pci card install them all, what pci card is installed?
If there is only one on the dell site im out of ideas it should be driver R114566.EXE i think

The PCI Card is your sound card ? Was it installed when you bought the system ? If not it the Dell driver you downloaded may be for an onboard (motherboard) sound card .
