Points on driving licence

Is there any way for employers to check them or do they have to rely on honesty?

Might they overlook a small number of points (2) if the candidate was otherwise suitable for the job?

@crillix - their insurance policy may be a factor, so it may not be entirely in their hands.

But you have to disclose it to the Insurance company - it's called upmost good faith.

I take it you are going for a driving job?
Does the ad say "no points"?

I don't think 2 point will matter, more than 500.000 drivers here have points so it's no big deal. But if they ask you should tell them.

usually 4 points and under is ok for any insurance policy. once you have more than 4 points it starts effecting your premium.

your employer has no way of knowing if you have points or not, but if you end up having any kind of accident and your employer has to claim off the insurance then they will find out that you had points that you did not disclose and the isurance company will most likely not pay out on the claim, and you will most likely lose you job. i would say that would be a serious enough reason for dismissal as it could be seen as gross misconduct.

Yeah I was aware it had to be disclosed. It just seems strange to me that the points system is this isolated system.

I wouldnt worry one little bit ... its hard enough to find out how many points you have on your licence never mind an employer!
My brother rang garda stations, and the departments and nobody could tell him how many he had or how long for!
PS : anything under four isnt anything to worry about!

With the company I work for 1 point will effect your premium but that's just for private cars

You have little to worry about if you're going to be driving a van or something - most commercial policies don't load for penalty points. We don't even keep a record of any penalty points a driver might have - so really there's no question about an employer being reluctant to hire you in case it would raise their premiums

best to be upfront about them, 2 is nothing to worry about at all
