    Hi Folks,

I'm a 28 years old dude living in City centre Dublin. I'm looking for a band of serious musicians for some heightened rock n' rolling.

I'm at a good technical & expressionnal level. Have played in a number of bands which all ended belly up but isn't that the old story.

Nevertheless, i'm not one to abandon the idea of music as it's more a lifestyle than an ideal. It's my only form of praying.... meditating or whatever people use to describe "outer body" experiences.

I've a strong heavy metal (old school to Pantera school of riffing), melodic shred (Marty friedman, Satch, Vai, Al di meola, John Williams (the guitarist!!:)) all the dudes) base but i'm leaning more towards the funky, groovy, chilled & souful end of the spectrum these days. I thoroughly enjoy improvised jams of all sorts. (i'm not stuck in the blues world or any musical idiom for that matter).

My big kicks at the mo are little Stevie Wonder & Billy Joel. Does that sound wussy? Check out their 70's & 80's era and you'll hear greatness.

I'm not really into all that post rock stuff unless it's done very musically: Most of those bands use odd time signatures to get their crappy riffs/melodies to sound "interesting". Basically... a good riff should sound good no matter the time signature.

My gear: Jackson Kelly, Strat, Engl Fireball, Epiphone Valve Junior & Boss Me-20.(just to show that i'm geared for big & more intimate gig situations)

Anyway, i guess i'm leaving a wide opening for an equally wide array of potential bands but the cool stuff is often found in the unexpected.

Would definitely want to hear recorded music before commiting to a jam.(the same will go for me but i can provide it on request. Better still... send me your tune and i'll record something over. Easiest & most reliable first impression)

    Thanks,
    Michael

That was a foolish statement and conveys quite the opposite to your self appointed seriousness.

Actually, you're going to have to back your statement. What's foolish about what i said? Why did it bother you? Are you in a post modern rock band that relys solely on odd time signature to carry a song? I'm interested to know how your opinion differs. Really...

You're just bumping this post in the hope someone cares. Since we're asking questions would you care to elaborate how a song like say march of the pigs by nine inch nails would sound good in 4/4 timing when the song is actually in 29/8 and then ask me to back up how stupid that statement was because im fairly sure you'll do it yourself.

I suspected you were a nerd.... and now i know it. What other than a complete musical geek would go and dig the exception of the song in 29/8 to back up their moaning about a post that contains a disaproving comment on the post rock movement which is now almost as stale as emo. They've managed to make 7/8, 5/4 & the likes sound run of the mill they're using it with such poor creativity.

I dont know how you felt the right to hijack this perfectly normal thread of one musician looking to other interesting musicians to make music with... you are such a little a turd.

There's nothing interesting about 'interesting' music. +1 for pusshead

I'm not looking for a guitarist though

Since when did a guy posting an ad looking for a band/musical collaborators be an invitation to slag him off just based on the wording of his ad. Really, nobody needs this kind of bullsh*t and the bands and musicians board would be a better place without it.

If i posted an ad saying 'im looking to start a white power band, only aryans may apply' im sure id get slagged. Also, since when did a guy posting an add looking for a band/musical collaborators be an invitation to slag off other peoples music taste, granted if he had of said 'im not a fan of post rock or any of that kind of music' that would have been fine, but he implied it was bad music and if you've ever heard anyone describe jazz as 'musical ****' you'll understand. To the OP, if im a nerd for actually having a knowledge of music outside of how to sweep pick and play pentatonics then give me glasses and acne, also to your insult of me being a turd...you own a jackson guitar, nuff said.

    You are a nerd...

Why make unfounded assumption about my knowledge of music? I called you a nerd only after you revealed yourself to be at a terminal phase of utter nerdiness.

Why care about the brand of guitar i play? You are indeed a smelly little turd who thinks that playing the right guitar matters... it's important to impress your friends when you're on stage, isn't it?

What do you know about jazz? I used to enjoy jazz... but it is the ultimate musical nerd music. All flash no tune... with the exception of Big band era swing jazz. And please don't launch on a rant about all the greats who came afterwards & contributed immensely to what we have in music today. We all know it.

Go back to your books & your metronome and have a nice nerdy time with yourself.

    Cheers,
    Michael

FFS. OP you're nearly worse for dragging yourself down to that level. If someone hijacks your thread just report it, you don't have to explain yourself.

    Hi Michael
How are you mate, listen not to draw you away for too long from the fight with the nerd and god knows your doing UCD & DCU a service by arguing with him, cause by the sounds of it, if he hadn't got you to moan at, then he'd be walking on campus with a jacket made of C4 and a AK-47 claiming that his mother didn't hug him enough and shooting anything that moves but apart from him, I’m in a band Called Syphor we're based here in Dublin and we're looking for a second guitarist (and by second I mean in number, not second fiddle or anything) as you can tell by the name we're a metal band but we don't want to do what every other metal band is doing in Dublin now with screaming vocals and this grind core sound rubbish(there's it is I said it slagging off a type of music,oh the humanity) .We're all huge Death (The Band) Fans as well as the rest (Slayer, Carcass so on) and want to try emulate that kind Death sound ,technical but with more of a groove about it.

We have a my space page but there's only video from the studio when we first got going, at the mo, cause of member changes and getting rid of guys who just weren’t good enough we're kind of back to square 1. So we've decided to record our E.P on the bank holiday weekend coming up so if your still looking for a band after that could you let me know with a PM and I’ll send it to you and see if it's something you'd be interested in playing. I could send you some of the demo/studio stuff we have now but it's very rough and would probably put you off.

    Nice one mate
    Cheers
    Jay

Hey man just put up a thread yesterday looking for a guitarist/singer to get a 2 piece together 4 pubs! like you, I have played in too many bands to mention, and I've almost givin up on the idea of forming a band ie ( a good band with good music and nothing else matters) there are so many idiots out there who really believe they're the **** and some of them are good on their instuments but have lousy personalites and can't manage to keep a band together! And because of that they live in a world where they take the piss out of everyone that has a band and most of them have never done a gig!! please get back to me man we'll have a chat anyway and see what we can sort out. I'm 25 with an good voice and I can't let music leave my life as much as it kills me.
