Why do people eat snots?

I'm a primary school teacher and I had a child complaining to me that she couldn't sit beside another child because he kept picking his nose and eating it. I went through a big spiel explaining how our noses are trying to get rid of the dirt trapped in there and that we should blow our noses to get rid of it, that it's wasting our bodies time by eating what it's trying to get rid of, trying to be nice so the child wouldn't feel embarrassed. His response? "Ah but teacher, it's gorgeous." And this morning driving into work, man next to me having a good oul root, then licked it right up. Seriously, why do people do this? Am I missing out? Is snot a flavour we can't live without?

I recall reading somewhere that it may have a purpose in helping your immune system. By eating snot you expose yourself to low level amounts of stuff or something. There's clearly a lot of grant money around for dubious science...:D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Plus if you roll it over your favourite comic strip it picks up the print.

Snots taste nicer than earwax. Factoid!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yeah. Only a total freak would eat their ear wax.

Belly button fluff isn't too good either!

    sticking fingers up our bum
but the pain was too strong
cause our finger were too long

    Or

I live in a jar of jam
    and when it gets sticky
    it sticks to my mickey
    I'm Popeye the sailorman

I used to work in a call centre where people would pick their noses and wipe it on the walls of the toilet cubicles. Seriously. The cleaners never touched it (who could blame them?!)

It wasn't a great company to work and I'm sure there are other ex and current employees who know where I'm talking about...

I know someone who used to do this.. asked him why and he said "They're full of nutrients."

Said fair enough, and left it at that...

Or ... I thought my nose was bleeding but it'snot

    Lame, i know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,220 ✭✭✭✭Loopy

I think people do it out of boredom, the amount of 'people' (I wanted to say guys but refrained!) that do it in traffic is unreal.

I enjoy a pick whilst alone, don't know why its so taboo but it is.. Why is it considered so yuk anyway..?
