I haven't been keeping up to date on the motherboard merry-go-round for a while now..
I'm thinking of getting a new motherboard. Budget ~€150
I have an EVGA 680i but I'm upgrading it through the step-up program to a 780i and selling it as the SLI route is not for me...
    I currently have a C2D E6600.. Thinking of upgrading to a 45nm quad core...
Just wondering which chipset is the way to go at the moment?
I like Gigabyte, they've served me well in the past. The last intel based chipset board I had was a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4.
Leaning towards this Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 board on komplett. Is this a good choice? Is the x38 overkill?
    Any recommendations please?

I recently got this and am very happy with it. I know its a bit over budget. Full support for 45nm cpus, Onboard HD audio. Excellent board for overclocking if you want.

    they are pretty expensive boards.

I am planning on getting this SLI board and it is pretty cheap:

What do you need you MoBo for? Do you really need things like HD audio?

here is a decent Gigabyte one at almost half the cost of your budget that has everything you need for a single card mobo, and that was just at a quick glance.

supports quad processors too (among others).

In the last couple of days I have started using Hardwareversand, Guys on boards here swear by them. Komplett has gotten very expensive.

    HI.
read this before you decide on a mainboard/cpu combination

you can skip the first bit.

I use the system for gaming and video encoding. No real need for HD audio as I have an X-Fi.
What I want is a solid board. Good overclocker. At least 6 SATA ports and more would be nice as eSATA is something I might consider in the future..
I have good components across the board and wouldn't like to skimp on the one that ties them all together..

The only concern I would have is the chipset seems older than the one I linked to and older still than the top of the line x48.
I just want a bit of future proofing and would be willing to spend up to €150 to ensure that. If I can get that for half the price I'm all for it :)

Thanks for the reply. Seems more aimed at nvidia based boards though which is what I'm moving away from....

Sickboy, I have a maximus Formula that I'll probably be selling in the next two weeks - I'm looking for a SLI board and will probably order a 780i board in the next few days.

The Max is a fantastic board - I had a Striker Extreme before that and it killed me trying to setup RAID. Let me know if you're interested.
