Thanks smemon, I've been waiting for that code.

An xps 420 with E8400, 8800GT graphics card, 2GB ram, 500 GB drive and Logitech™ Cordless Desktop™ MX®3200 can now be had for just €630. This is Dells cheapest system ever with an 8800GT. Upgrading to the Logitech keyboard allows the 10% discount to kick in, the systems price is to low without it to qualify.

The price of this system has gone down by €17 since lunch time when I ordered mine. I'll try ringing them to see if I can get the price adjusted or the order cancelled - I know I'm greedy :). If anybody else has tried to get Dell to adjust the price of a system bought online please let me know if you had any luck.

    Other upgrades I choose were:

    2GB 677mhz ram to 2GB 800mhz for €9
Creative Labs Fatal1ty Gaming Headset for €26 (good price for this headset)

To get these prices its the usual:

    Go to http://www.dell.ie/epp

    Evalue code: 420 - (D04X414)

Do the upgrades, add to basket and apply the coupon supplied by smemon.

yeah it would be perfect but for the fact they've removed the quad core option

i had intended to get the above, with 4 gig RAM and a few extras, but only if it had a quad core...

might have to hold on for another couple of weeks and se what happens...

At first I felt the same way about not having a Q6600 option, but after I read up some more on the E8400 I found out that some people were taking out their quad cores, selling them and putting in an E8400 instead. AFAIK, with most games the E8400 performs better and even in tests where apps were able to make full use of the Q6600 four cores, the E8400 wasn't far behind. Having said that I don't profess to be an expert and know that others will correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah i agree, in gaming terms a good dual core will smash a quad core simply because games aren't built for quad cores yet, so the extra cores are wasted..

    On paper 2 x 3ghz = 6ghz, whereas 2.4ghz x 4 = 9.6ghz.

I know that's a load of rubbish in reality but i think in order to future proof the system i need a quad core, particularly if i'm doing video or photo editing.

I'm not much of a gamer myself. They had the quad core option on that specific package up until a few days ago, and i noticed it's available on all others, so perhaps it's just an error and they'll get it back on soon..

IIRC the quadcore was actually €20 cheaper than the dual core also :p

Is That €630 before shipping is added? With the system above, the total I'm getting is €664.85 incl shipping.

Jilm, it was €630.60 inc. VAT & Delivery. Adding the upgrades for memory and headset brought the total to €664.85.

I am ordering through epp but am confused where to put the company name - is it in the contact info (ie where it states: Company Name (ONLY complete if you are a company)) - or somewhere else? Thanks...

lordluxor, I was having problems as well and I had put in AIB as the company name. Maybe I should have used the full title Allied Irish Bank. Anyway I cancelled the order because the price of the system had been lowered a couple of hours after I ordered it. This morning I spotted a 530s with a similar spec to the xps 420 including the E8400. Main difference was the graphics card was a ATI 2400 XT, but for €450 inc. vat & delivery I couldn't resist and bought it instead.

Edit: I forgot to say that the 530s I bought was from Dell outlet where they are doing €80 off + free delivery.

Is anybody else seeing the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error page when trying to order the xps 420 through epp? I'm getting this in both Firefox & IE.

I wouldn't order an XPS 420 atm, they've hiked prices way up yesterday...

I'm paying about €200 MORE than what i would be paying had i bought the same system a few days ago.

So wait it out another few days, get another 10% coupon and then get in there ;)
