Mention travel on a CV or not?

    Hi there,
I work in IT and I'm doing up my CV, thinking about changing jobs. Prior to the current job that I've been in for 2.5 years I took a year out to travel.

Question is, do I mention my year out for travel in my CV? If so, how?

Also, could the fact that I enjoy traveling go against me - as in, don't hire this guy, he'll be off heading around the world on us in no time!

    What ye reckon?

If there's a gap in your CV between jobs that's explained by the travel then I would put it in.

Nothing bad about mentioning your travels at all! You've been in your current job for 2.5 years, I would consider that a very decent amount of time. Don't worry about it :)

Fine to say you have been travelling for a year. You also have the advantage of potential employers thinking you have got the travel bug out of your system now.

I had a pretty tough interview a few weeks back and I mentioned on the app form about my travels and i think i worked in my favour ... I've done so much travelling over the past 2-3years that it needed mentioning ... The interviewers were happy with my responses ... broadening mind/horizons ; expanding social network ; confidence building etc ... Mention it but use it as much as you can by mentioning the positives and outlining what you gained or benefited from with your travels ... good luck with it :)

Sorry to resurrect a year old thread but just wondering if anyone knows where would be the best place to mention travel details on the cv?
I've just returned a month ago from travelling since june 08 and don't want it to look like a big gap. I'm just afraid whoever reviews it would not even read past the first page. Should I just stick it in before the past employment section?

Last job application I sent, I included the fact that I was travelling on the cover letter only (was travelling from oct 08 til recently). But I do like to keep my CV fairly concise.

Leave it in the timeline, where it should be chronologically, otherwise it will look like an unexplained gap.

It is not like Irish people did not love travelling :D The recruiter you will be speaking too probably did too.
Just write a quick line with what you did (If it can be said ;)) very briefly and you are sorted out.
