I kind of agree. It's a fun game and all, but I've played way better online games. But sure it's grand for what it is.

yeah i tried to get in to it there a couple of months ago but lost interest after a couple of weeks. COD4 ftw!

Only thing that peeved me about it was the lack of maps. That is slowly being addressed.

However, as an online PS3 experience, it is only beaten by COD4 imo.

Yea, I'd agree well over-hyped. Lack of a single/multiplayer campaign mode is a huge minus on the game.

Played it a few times, but nothing in it would make me spend any length of time on line with it.

I really love the game. Have been playing it regularly for three months now. Don't think it'd make a very good single player game really. The multi player is more than enough for me anyway. Given how cheap the game is, it's probably the best value for money I've seen in a game to date.

I gather it's not for everyone, but I'm not sure how it could be called "over-hyped" when it has been quite modestly promoted and has mostly grown through the word-of-mouth generated by players who enjoyed it.

ya but one of the best parts to COD4 is ranking up... there just isnt the same in warhawk the points system takes ages to go up one rank!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,332 ✭✭✭311

I think it's ok now and again ,I definetly wouldn't put any serious time into it.
It's not got enough depth to be a serious game.

I think its ok for what it is, the game was brought out just to get ppl playing online and it worked I've played it a good few times and I like it. It was never ment to be teh greatest game ever made just a bit of online fun.

Play 'Capture The Flag'! I was a bit disallusioned with this game myself, until I switched to playing 'Capture The Flag' seriously. You get like 10 points or something just for picking up the flag, which is easy to accomplish if you just fly full speed into the enemy base, jump out, grab the flag, then leg it

I have a feeling most people dissing the game, are the guys who played it a couple of times and got their asses handed to them, then decided that it was the game that was at fault. I was the same at the start, believe me, and actually didn't play the game again for months after I had gotten it. Still loving it now though.

i'm not saying its an terrible game im just saying for what i heard about it before i bought it (which was the only reason i bought it) i was very disapointed by it. still got a free blue tooth head set can't complain about that i suppose.

The game isn't an epiphany or anything, but it's one of the most fun games on the system IMO. It's purely fun, easy to drop in and out of, once you pass the initial learning curve at least.

It has a very dedicated following too, it's probably only second to CoD4 in terms of online activity on the system.

i dont know maybe its just that other online games i have played are so much better than this game that i just never gave it a real chance to enjoy it for what it is and i probably wont now with cod4 and then mgs4 online will be out then battle field bad company etc etc.

Ya its a good game and the learning curve is really high.it is offputting at the beginning and even though im still new im getting beteer.Stick with it and you'll learn to love it.Try playing it with a friend with online splitscreen and it gets better

What would give you a sense of accomplishment? The ranking up itself is not easy- points requirements can be tough and there's usually a badge requirement also. For my current ranking I had to get a set number of air-to-air kills with the warhawk's machine guns- I tend to favour ground combat so this forced me to improve my air combat. Other ranks require a demonstration of driving skills, sniping, killing effciency. For the next ranking I'll need to have gotten the highest number of air-to-air kills in a given round. Thankfully I nabbed that badge a few times already.

Now, I never played Warhawk religiously, was always getting my ass handed to me and then COD4 came along, so my time on WH died down completely.

Just this weekend I started on it again. COD4 was at risk of becoming boring, the MGO beta was annoying me and I had some hours to spare.

Have you ever had that feeling of seeing a former g/f and getting that tight stomach feeling? Well it wasn't quite like that but it was close. Since the two add-ons, it really has opened the game up. And best of all, I am actually doing pretty well.

Personally, as I said above, it is one of the best online experiences on the PS3 besdies COD4. I know you may say as a pure MP game it should be, but thats the thing, it is!

I have to say I'm really enjoying it to the point where I don't even bother with CoD4 at all any more.

there is a steep learning curve with Warhawk due to a lack of a single player component, but it's worth sticking with it.

I started off just jumping in, but as has been said i got my ass handed to me far too many times and couldn't stay alive long enough in a warhawk to learn how to fly it properly, so I spent a bit of time on my lonesome just learning to fly the thing well enough that I could hold my own.

I watched what other people were doing in air-to-air battles and then tried to learn the manouvres myself. then I got stuck into one of the air-to-air only levels and before I knew it I was moving up the ranks and finishing in the top 3-5 in almost every tournament in the air.

then I moved onto ground combat and tried to stick to a certain thing, either on foot or in a vehicle until I got good at those too.

I stopped playing it LOTS after a couple of months, but I've gone back to it regularly (and can still hold my own in any fight) and spent quite a lot of time on it again after each update/map pack etc. and I'm well into it again now since the new update and map came out. the vehicle-less glacier DM's and CTF matches are excellent fun and very well designed.

I died a lot in the first couple of days but I stuck with it. Shame you didn't give it more than two days.

If you join a game that's become unbalanced or is near finishing, there's a good chance the enemy will have fought right to your base. Since people will be quitting from the losing side at this point, you're more likely to end up on the losing team due to numbers balancing. The game shows you the map before you spawn, allowing you to pick your spawn point. If there's only one point remaining, maybe choose another server (no point jumping into what is probably a lost cause when you're new). If there's a spawn point that's getting camped and other spawn points are available, simply spawn elsewhere instead. Most importantly, if you're new, join an official (blue) newbie server. Your recruit rank markings showing up on a high level server will certainly attract unwanted attention.

Warhawk requires a small amount of patience for the first few games. After that, it is very rewarding.

i totally under stand were your coming from mate , i kopped on to the newbie faults straight away and i can see the appeal of solely being an online title, im just very good at knowing what i like and dont like and i feel its full of faults that i couldnt live with , the bottom line its just not a title i would play for hours, i try to keep my collection of games as being playable all the time if i clear a game and it was ok it gets traded, if it was outstanding it gets kept, the reason i do this is i dont know how many times ive sold a game only to want to play it again and if its hot ye wont get it any were. cheers mate happy gameing

    don't sell it!

seriously, there's a steep learning curve to begin with, but what I did was to choose my games more carefully initially and stic to noob only maps (under the filter options, you can set the max rank for the maps to show and keep it to your rank and below so you don't keep getting pwnd all the time.

also, there's almost always multiple spawn sites on most maps, so don't just keep spawning at the same place if you keep getting killed all the time, take some time to find somewhere where there's more of your own guys than the enemies or somewhere lonely so you can have a few minutes to get some decent guns.

then i spent some time learning to fly the warhawk in an empty LAN game i created myself. familiarise yourself with the controls and how to do the basic manouvres and stuff before you have to do with people shooting at you.

learn how each weapon works (on ground and air) so you know what's going to do the trick when varous situaitons arise.

i think that was where the game failed slightly, not having a single player campaign. most people would cut their teeth on the SP elements of any game first, then venture online for some MP action already with a decent amount of familiarity with it, whereas with WH, you can easily end up in over your head and just feel like cannon fodder all the time.

my best advice is to filter games to just your rank and below and watch what other people are doing whilst you're doing stuff, follow people if you need to just to see what others are doing that works in-game and then learn the moves yourself (offline if need be), but above all, give it a chance, it's a very rewarding game in the long term. I've had it since luanch day and it's a game i still go back to reguarly once whatever new game i'm currently playing has started to bore me.

A skirmish mode with configurable bots would be a great training system. Wouldn't require the depth of a SP campaign but would give new players a chance to figure out the game before facing experienced pilots.
