Background Music?

    Hey Guys,
I've been asked to make a slideshow with background music for a meeting we have next week.
It won't be presented as such, it'll just be rolling through the pics all day on a projector with the music on at the same time.

Basically it will be pictures of boats, people on boats and people at previous meetings (they're always on in different countries).
I was originally thinking some classical music, a bit of Orff, Verdi's Requiem, stuff like that from the movies, but the guy who has asked me to do it has said that it should be upbeat and 'fun'?

I'm stumped, no idea what to do, I've gotten suggestions like 'Eye of the Tiger', but what would you pick?

/edit - just so you know, these aren't fancy boats, they're out working on them every day, mainly pictures of them in bright orange jumpsuits! (ooh, maybe some Johnny Cash?!)

Hmm, I'm not really a music buff but I find stuff like Air, Goldfrapp, Zero 7 etc quite good for modern background music.

I'm fairly certain that there was an international law, violation of which is punishable by catapult, passed by the UN a few years ago that states all montages/slideshows/video clips or other visual media must contain Clubbed To Death by Rob Dougan as the backing music. So I'd go with that.

Some upbeat jazz might do the trick. Early George Benson might do the trick:

(not GB - some live cover. Its the first part of the medley)

Ask the people in Jazz/Blues for recommendations, but for this, I'd go for some instrumental guitar-led jazz.

If you need something a bit more modern, I'd go for Air too. But if there are boats involved, you couldn't go wrong with In The Navy

You probably wouldn't find Django haning out next to ATMs with a copy of the Big Issue.

Would be awesome if you did though...

    Even better:

EDIT: As a previous poster said Air, anything by them really.

I'd go for something off Air's 'Moon Safari' album.

    Failing that:

Sorry to sound like a totall boring biddy but coming from a musical background why not use traditional music of what ever country you're showing. Ireland -> use some good lively band like Altan or Dervish (not as cheesy as Eurovision made them look)

England -> sea-shanty or something by Kate Rusby

    Norway -> Norwegian folk

Scotland -> Bara McNeils or the like

All great music and sorry, picked these countries because to me they're the first that come to mind when you mention boats.... coming from a big fishing town and all that jazz.

P.S Only just saw that you're in Norway, use your own traditional music...it's magical!

You're not sounding like a biddy at all! I did actually think of that, but I've no idea if Thai music is 'upbeat and fun'.

I looked it up, but I think when I wrote traditional, wiki/google all assumed I meant from back in the 16th century or something!

Thanks for all the tips guys, and keep them coming, with the number of photo's I have, it's going to take me a while to get through it all, so I'll probably need a few songs.

Quentin Tarantino films' soundtracks are good for light upbeat music. Have a listen to "Tarantion Connection" album.

Get some instrumental version of some godawful semi-obscure song that most of us would have forgotten. Would drive me mental trying to thing what it was.

The man from Akapoko, or woman? I'm almost sure Akapoko is in the title anyway.

The only notable exception to this is the "Matrix" subclause, if you don't have 'clubbed to death' available, you can use 'Burly brawl' from the second matrix film.
However you then have to add poorly synched slo-mo sections to your montages/slideshows/video clips or other visual media.

    It's internet law.

If its to do with fishing boats and what not I would go with fisherman blues by the water boys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rc0a9P7Wxo8

It is indeed, good old Devy is a genius of the highest order, and the video is just kitsch to the max. :D

I'd have a hard time deciding which would be the best video ever, especially when you consider Meshuggah's effort:

    Genius.
