Leave of Absence Issue

I am working for a pretty large well known company I really love working for them as its pretty laid back and the work and pay is ok. I now have a problem I need to take a leave of absence for one month at the end of August. My problem is they keep saying no and its always from the same person who says no she is a bit of a battleaxe and does not like to budge even when she is wrong. I have been forced into the following delemma either I quit the job which I dont want to do or I take 2 weeks holiday and call in sick for the rest. Anybody got any ideas what I can do or say. If I leave them now it will take them 2 to 3 months to train my replacement but I dont want to blackmail them into giving me this leave of absence. CThe comapy hand book says you can request one.

Any ideas I need to take this?

Why do you want to take leave of absence?

Take two weeks holidays and ask for two weeks unpaid leave.

    +1

Don't call in sick, they can and will sack you especially since they know your plans.

I wouldn't call your supervisor a battleaxe. She is under more pressure and has more responsibilty than you.
If you were a team leader, how would you feel if a team member took an entire month off and put everyone under pressure

Good luck getting your request but don't be so quick to judge in future.

If this battleaxe is someone in HR then ignore what I just posted and feck them, I've yet to met a competant HR person

At this piont you are pushing your employer and with the attitude you are displaying battle axe etc chances are you have damaged your future employment prospects there anyway. As it really is you who forced yourself into this dilemma.

Remember some times your employer will refuse these requests in the hope you do leave.

Best you look around for a job that can start you after you have taken your trip our in the interview say you have plans to travel for 4 weeks and give dates then arrange your trip for those dates. Absences notiefied to employers during interviews may not be paid but are honoured.

Then once your future job is battened down take your trip.

If not you better try and repair some of the damage you may have caused.

However if you are young enough leave the job you can hide the absence on your CV later in life and you will always get another job.

Anyway enjoy the trip if you go and best of luck.

I havent said that to them the person who turns down these requests has nothing to do with me. My team manager said that she does not want to loose me.

Have you tried asking them if you could take a month off at another time of the year to do your road trip? Is it a scheduling issue or do they simply not want you to take 4 weeks in a row off?

If they keep saying no then you just need to decide which is more important - the job or the road trip.

Your employer needs you. If you are unable to meet those needs, you need to quit.

I don't think you'll regret going on the road trip. Leave your job and reapply when you get back.
