Hey I recently passed my driving test hooray!. But when I went to get my licence from the tax office I was told there is a 1 month waiting time. (Which is normal for Nenagh). So all I have is a receipt that says I have paid for my licence. The woman at the deck said this will do if I am stopped by the Garda.
What I would like to know is....
Do I have to wait untill I get my full licence in the post before i can

    1. Tell my insurance company in order to get a reduction on my premium
    2. Drive cars that are insured with an open drive policy

    Don't know about point 1.

A lot of open drive insurance policies specify a minimum age (normally 25) and a minimum time (e.g. 1 yr) for having held a license.

I'm not saying the open drive policy you wish to use says this - check it carefully before driving though.

congrats on passing your test btw.

I got my full license straight right there in the office (Limerick Co. Co.) last month - kinda sucks that other people have to wait :(

I got about €250 off my premium - however Quinn Direct said they'd send me a cheque for the refund but never did

    Congrats!!!

1.Yes you can tell your insurance company... Thing is.. they need to have a copy of your pink licence. I was not happy when my esurance co. just refunded €200 out of €1600 for driving 1.2 Fiesta so I went to hibernian and quoted me €700 but if I pass Ignition course it will further go down to €600 to which I did pass. Have to look around. :)

    2.Not sure with this.

Passed my test few weeks ago too:D

On your first point..Contacted my insurance Co.-Hibernian straight away and faxed them the cert, although it took about two weeks to process , slashed by half thank god...Life as a student made just that small bit easier!!;)
