    Roy Jones Jr disappointed
Pugilist wanted to face Anderson Silva in boxing match

The ban Dana White issued rendering the bout of boxing between Anderson Silva and Roy Jones Jr unviable has disappointed the American pugilist. In statements made to the publication Daily News, Roy Jones said he doesn’t understand the justification the UFC president gave for vetoing such a bout of wanting to avoid the shame of the Brazilian being knocked out in the first round.

“I don't see how it could discredit the UFC. The guy has boxed before and he's a tall, slick, left handed fighter. That gives everybody problems. It would be a good fight. As fighters we're supposed to be trying to do things that amaze people and make history. This could have been something that people really wanted to see.
"I just think it's wrong not to allow him (Silva) to get the opportunity to live out his fantasy to be in the ring with one of his heroes. That's the kind of thing that boxing promoters usually do."

Jones also regretted not having delved in MMA. “If I had a high school wrestling background, I'd be willing to try that stuff (mixed martial arts). But I'm lost on the ground."

Jones just wanted a big pay day in a fight he should easily win!!

interesting that he said he would of liked to try MMA, big George said the same thing, but that it was not around when he was growing up..

its simple really. dana white knows rjj would destroy anderson in a boxing ring and i believe he feels that if he were to allow it and witness silva be demolished that it would look bad for the ufc and could get casual mma fans to stop watching and turn to boxing. just my opinion

Roy Jones into cage fighting IMO i dont think he will have the experince to fight these guys and as for Anderson Silva would have him down into a arm lock in no time! Tapout for jones before he trys to throw a punch at any of the cage fighting guys.

it was meant to be a boxing match, so basically talking about roy in mma is pointless

Tbh if Dana had allowed this to happen if would have been completely idiotic and a very bad move for UFC.

With Don King around, that would not surprise me, but Roy Jones jnr. has always been a big sports fan. Jones was a top class Basketball player also and played every Saturday regardless of whether he had a title defence on a Sauturday night or not until he became a really big name and the bigwigs got in the way of his basketball career.
He would no doubt have love to get into mma but he was honest about it and said that he would be lost on the ground.
The sad thing is that he won't retire, he just loves being in the limelight and loves being an athlete too much.

Why would RJJ lower himself to get involved with that circus side show?

Anyway Silva has fought in the noble art tradition before and was roundly spanked by a nobody if memory serves me right (altough there is a doubt over the record)

I'll be disappointed if Calzaghe's last fight is against him. So, i hope Jones continues to be disappointed.
