Hey guys just want to check whats the deal with cancelling flights.

I'm due to go on holidays in over a month's time with family, but due to a foot injury, my mother doens't think there is much point in us going and basically i want to know is it possible to cancel our flights and if so how do i go about it and how are refunds done? We are going by ryanair, the only thing i could find on their site was something about unused flights, whereby you might get back governament taxes, but that was all

Thanks in advance for any help

RyanAir will refund you the travel tax, but charge you a fee for it, the fee will cover most of the tax.

One can also change flights, for a large fee.

Unless you had travel insurance ???

Yea we have travel insurance.. but how will that help - i may help the person who can hardly walk - but the other won't get anything..

but i suppose if one gets most back then the others can just get back the travel tax.

Check the terms, some policies will pay out for the entire travel party, if one has to cancel.

Insurance policies cover you for cancellation due to illness to an immediate member of family so if everyone has insurance and is related to your mother then you should be ok. You will need a doctors cert proving this of course.

Check the small print though as some do have an excess which you will not get back so if the excess was say €100 and your flight cost €90 you wont get anything back.

Ive never bothered to claim back any taxes on unused Ryanair flights because it takes so long and the amount you get back doesnt make it worth the hassle.
