Firewall Blocking Internet

My internet doesn't work and according to Eircom support it's definitely a firewall issue. I've switched off Windows Firewall but it still doesn't work. Could it possibly be some sort of Malware stopping it? I can Ping loopback but everything else gets Request Timed Out

Windows Firewall may not be the only firewall on our system. Do you have something by Norton, Symantec or any other companies security suite installed?

Can your software update, ie AVG or such? Can be ports blocked.

    Your internet settings??

Try resetting all of your internet settings in the conenctions tab of internet explorer. Under LAN settings make sure all boxes are unchecked.

Just now I uninstalled Symantec, restarted my PC and now internet is working. Not sure why but at least it's working now. Will still need to use some form of Firewall though

Firewalls run as a service you never stopped the service i'd say.
