My experience of Sony laptops has been positive; they ones ive owned were well put together and used sturdy, solid components. Spec for spec, (imo) they can be overpriced compared to some other brands.

That laptop has a good spec and should do most things you ask of it, with the exception of playing current games. What kind of HP is it replacing?

My HP has been treating me well (pavillion dv6500) but HP refused to replaced the AC adapter when it shorted out

Been using a Sony FZ11S (I think is the model) laptop as my main laptop for close to a year and find it thoroughly excellent: sturdy enough, really brilliant screen, good software, good hardware. It's fairly similar sounding to what you have there, bar the bluray drive. At the time I got it, it was also extremely good value. The only negative I have is the trackpad which is a bit plastic-y feeling, though works fine. Online Support has been very good overall for things like drivers and updates etc but I've had nothing actually go wrong so can't comment on RMA type issues.

I think the general consensus on Vaio laptop's is that they are reliable and extremely well put together though somewhat overpriced. Using an FZ11L myself and haven't had one spot of bother with it. I'm as happy as Larry.
