Starter Bass

Hi all, I know nothing at all about bass guitars, having only played an acoustic years ago. The twelve year old is dying to play bass, I have no idea what to buy him or to choose, any advise on what I need to look for? or advise on which shops would be helpful. Thanks.

Whats your budget? What type of music is he interested in?

budget is low as possible as he is only starting so under 300.

He likes music like green day, white stripes, cant think of any more at the moment. Thanks

Check out the Peavey Zodiac Bxp export version. It's about 250 on thomann.
I had one as a backup to my gibson sg. Good sounding bass with great tonal variety. Got lots of good reviews.
