Free website blocker?

Hi All,
Hope this is the right place to post. I'm looking for a simple program that will allow me to block certain websites locally from a PC. Basically, I just want to be able to enter a website from a password-protected list, and for that website not be accessible from the local machine (via firefox or IE). I'm not sure if the router I have supports it, but I will check this out also. I've looked around but there doesn't seem to be any good free examples.
Any suggestions would be great.

If your router doesn't support it, putting entries into:
c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
could be a simple remedy if the PC user doesn't have access to the file - point the dns entries to a harmless IP.

So an example entry in the hosts file would be:

127.0.0.1 [url] http://www.nastysite.com[/url]

Is this correct?

Depending on what exactly you are doing, OpenDNS is another option.

If the person you are blocking it from is reasonably tech savvy they will be able to get around it, but if not or you are using it to stop yourself from accessing nuisance sites it's pretty much perfect.
