yesterday (08/04) George Hook mentioned a website to find the best car rental prices in Europe.
Does anyone remember the site or know of any?
I'm going to Lanzarote at end of month and need 2 cars for 1 week.

    Cheers,
    Pa

wasn't sure to put this in holidays/motor or radio....

I have used carjet.com on 2 occasions for Lanzarote and would highly recommend. They are a broker and operate in many countries. We paid 150euro approx for Peugeot 206 diesel a few years ago. Full insurance was included as was 2 drivers.

Used them in Majorca last year also.

I've used Argus Car Hire, they seem to be very good on price. Haven't heard of CarJet, but will lokk them up for future reference.

Used carjet.com a few times now, was never hugely impressed TBH and have since stopped using them. They are cheap, but that's because they use local companies rather than national/international companies.

The problems I've had have generally been down to the car types. Once in Spain, I had booked a Focus class car and ended up with an Accent. Maybe they class that as a Focus size car, but I don't. It was a horrendous POS also.

First time I used them was fine, got what I had booked (or similar) - booked a Focus class, got a 2 litre diesel 307 which was grand.

Two years ago - Spain - I booked a Megane Scenic (or similar) as we had 4 adults and a child and needed a bit of space. They had a Focus for me when I arrived at the desk. Spent hours sorting it out, didn't get a car the day I arrived, had to come back next day to pick up this Peugeot mini-bus thing (which was filthy). Grand yolk for lugging everyone about in, but a bit "raw" for my liking.

Anyway, just my tuppence worth. Probably ok if you're just a couple and are not too fussed about what you get, but as a family needing space and specific requirements like child seats etc., I won't be using carjet.com again.

    Try

    http://www.carhireeverywhere.ie/

They use a search engine to find good deals.

Used them in Ireland and found them good.

Have used www.autoeurope.ie a few times, always seems to offer good value, searches for deals with whatever companies operate at your collection point, can be a big international company or a smaller local one.

    Try Cabrera Medina http://online.cabreramedina.com/cabrera/cabrera_en.htm .

I used them for a spur of the moment decision to hire a car and found them very good. Because they're part of a group of GM owned car dealerships, they use Opels & Saabs mostly, but you can get other brands if you like.

They were quite reasonable too, as I recall. Branches all over the island.

Hi PauloMN - I appreciate your comments re: carjet and would agree that it's possible that you may be unlucky with the company carjet sell your booking to. One tip for anyone using carjet is to look at your booking form to see what company they're using. You can then go to their own website to have a better idea of the car you will receive (or give the company a call) and cancel the booking if you're not happy with it.

I have no association with carjet apart from being a satisfied customer. Many of my work colleagues have used them also without complaint - maybe we were just lucky.

On the 2 occasions we used them in Lanzarote the hire company was Record Rentals which did not have a desk like Hertz etc but they had a rep wait for us at Arrivals.

Last year we used Carjet in Majorca (Palma Airport) and Goldcar Europa were the rental company. They had as big a presence in the airport as the other major rental companies. We received a Ford Focus C-Max which was in excellent condition.

I have used Car Jet a number of times over the last four years in Spain and France and had a problem once in France in that there was no car available upon arrival but the rep drove us to an alternative rental company and had made all the necessay arrangements for us. Unfortunately we had paid up front as this was a requirement for Nice airport and it took a little while to get the money back but i got it back including the difference over and above our original cost the local rental company charged us. Heading to Spain again this summer and have booked again with Car jet so I would recommend them.

OP - we always use Cicar (www.cicar.com) - was out there last week and had a Zafira with 3 child seats for Eur238 (7 days). It's convenient to have the car booked and ready when you land as otherwise you have to face the sometimes torturous taxi queues.

Local car hire offices were offering deals last week of Eur200 for a Saab 93 Convert - you won't be able to book these on the web though and would need to arrange on the ground (and not at the airport).

    Petrol is a lovely 82c / litre !

    Hope this helps

Is it better/cheaper to book from here online before you go or can you get better bargains walking into an office in lanzarote?

Was out there in april and got a car, Citroen C3, for 6 days for €72.. additional driver and full cover.. A crew at the airport.. booked in advance and was well worth it..

Used a company called Autoreisen, German company and apparently all the Germans use them and they usually are much much cheaper than the rest. Car was spotless, perfect condition and all very simple. Anymore questions PM me..

Cicar and cabrera medina are the same company. If you're not using Hertz or Avis, they're the best of the locals by a mile.

I've done online quotes for 20 days with a few of the above, inc carjet and Hertz has come out cheaper than all of them
