We're usually a couple of years behind over there in this sort of thing.
I would think Eircom is glad Irish people can't use iplayer.

Good thing people in the UK don't know what torrents or P2P are!

Seriously, what would the ISP's hope to accomplish from this? Sell their own IPTV services? Prevent people from using the service they have already paid for?

Interesting article. As an aside, you can actually use iplayer in Ireland if you are have UTV as your ISP and use the Northern Ireland proxy : ni-cache.utvinternet.com port 80 I think.

Is there any way to use the iPlayer if your not with UTV?

    Some proxy or the sort?

not much help - but this is where i got my information. Note one of the posters says that a UTV configured router will get you access to the ni proxy on any isp account.

If this information is correct someone might have a spare UTV router lying around that they might be able to sell or give to you.
one other thing on this geographical ip restrictions i noticed, when i use amazon.co.uk ( I have an address in the north as my brother lives there) the site refuses my order even though i have a northern address. I have to use the ni proxy for this as well to get stuff delivered to my brothers address.
