9 hole competitions

Now that summer [sic] time is in, 9 hole competitions will be starting up in the bright evenings. I know my club has their first one tomorrow.
Talking to my friend today, he told me you can now get adjusted via 9 hole competions so I looked up www.gui.ie
    9 Hole Scores
Evidence from golf clubs indicates that a significant number of Members, due to increasing demands in their working and family life for example, are unable to play 18 hole Qualifying Competitions frequently enough to establish and maintain a handicap representative of their potential ability.
Consequently, in response to the changing needs of the game and the Members of our Affiliated Clubs, Qualifying Competitions over Nine-Holes have been introduced into the UHS to provide additional opportunities for the return of Qualifying Scores.
It is envisaged that Nine-Hole Qualifying Competitions will be particularly attractive to clubs and their Members in summer evenings and in the restricted daylight hours of winter weekends. Nine-Hole competitions could also be the means by which a greater number of senior golfers are encouraged to make returns for handicap purposes.
The format for Nine-Hole Qualifying Competitions is Stableford with a ‘neutral’ 18 points for the nine unplayed holes being added to the Nine-Hole Stableford score.
As there is no desire to change the traditional way in which competitive golf is played i.e. over 18 holes, the number of Nine-Hole competitions is restricted.

Ok so they have to be 'qualifying competitions' and the number is limited, but I hope this will be a positive introduction.
The first two I played last year, shot level par, 20 points and lost by 5 both times!

Same in my club, we have a 10 hole comp (due to the layout), this is for long handicappers 18+, it's regularly won with 26+ points and once last year with 29 points, but obviously no cuts. So it did need to be looked at. Single figure player myself so never played in it but lots of the lads that do are never seen playing in 18 hole comps, where they can get cut.

    29 points
I'd need to go out in 27 shots for 9 holes... tiger would have trouble doing that off the red tees :)

It will be interesting in our club because the back nine is harder than the front so people might get cut 'easier'. Like you say, these crazy scores don't seem to be produced in 18 holes, and certainly not in the strokeplay medals :D

Last year was the first year I played regularly in the wednesday 9 hole and i must say I really enjoyed the social side of it... a bit of competitive golf never goes astray.

Good news on this front as a lot of people cant play at weekends but still want to get a decent handicap. My place has a nine hole comp on Weds and if you want you can play 18 and have you better nine count.

That said over the years there has been a lot of unusual scores on the Wed, I think one year there was a 27 or 28. Nuts

  Must've added up his best nine individual holes in the 18 with a score like that...

Can we have a list of a few places that are playing these nine-hole evening comps (semi-open/open ones only obviously!) in the South Dublin, Kildare region?

31 points for 10 holes won our 10 hole comp on tuesday last. Lad playin off 22. Unreal score. Handicap sec. says the 9 hole comp rule isn't in at the moment and he wont be cut, placing in the fairways was in but paly as it lies in the rough. What chance do us mere mortals have....
