DirectX Error Preventing my Gaming...

Whenever I try and play COD 4, it says 'DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the readme for possible solutions' I did that, reinstalled the game, checked that all my drivers were up to date, reinstalled DirectX, and still, it wouldn't work... Anybody able to help? Thanks.

I did that, reinstalled the game, checked that all my drivers were up to date, reinstalled DirectX, and still, it wouldn't work...

Anybody able to help?

Couple of options. Turn off XFire if you're using that. If you have Realtek based onboard sound, update the drivers for it.

start> run > type dxdiag

make sure none of your directx files are missing or corrupt.
