PS3 showing HD vids...HELP

sorry to be a noob here, but I have a query and I am sure the fine minds here will be able to help.

After finally caving in and buying the 40g PS3 (i was going to hold out for the 80g MGS pack), I have been messing around with vid settings and seeing what I can/cannot play on the system.

Since I now have a HD tv, a ps3 and a hdmi cable, I feel I should be able to transfer a HD video file to the console and watch it off there. So I downloaded a hd trailer from gamespot, transfered the file to the p3, but I am getting a unsupported file msg if I try to play it.

Now the file comes up as a MPEG-4 file on my laptop, and any other MPEG-4 file I transfer over play fine.

Any Ideas ?? Is it even possible at the mo with the limitations the console has at the minute (in regard to possible firmware additions)?

There was an issue where it didnt support certain video files over 2gb, but I think that has since been addressed by a firmware update.

I am running the latest 2.20 firmware and the file is .mp4, h.264 format.

I coverted the vid using video 9 for the ps3, but it is annoying that i have to convert a HD to another HD file just to get it to play.

I have heard you can use TVersity to stream the content to the PS3, but as I am not wireless, I am finding it hard to get my laptop to "see" the ps3.
