Volunteer Summer Workcamps in southern Germany

08-04-2008 5:22pmHi!
We at the Kooperative Dürnau invite any and all young
people, who are interested in travel, foreign
languages, social networking, and meaningful life
experience to consider applying to our Summer
Workcamps here in southern Germany. The camps run one
month long (either June, July, or August - your
choice) and can easily be included within a
summer-long European travel experience, as a way to
more closely interact with local people and build
lasting friendships with other young people from other
countries. Plus, it is a great way to gain practical
experience speaking the German language, if you like
(optional). Applicants are required to arrange (and
pay for) their own travel to and from Germany (and
Dürnau), but housing and food are provided for you
during your stay, and accident insurance for
work-related activities as well. Only a small 25 Euro
fee is required for administrative costs.

Learn while you work, in areas like animal husbandry,
gardening, carpentry, printing, and more! Make
friends and experience rural German culture in
beautiful, bucolic Baden-Württemberg!
Here are some more details about the camps...
Where?
Dürnau is a small village in the heart of
"Upper Swabia", sitting between Stuttgart and Lake Constance.
The nearby nature reserve surrounding Federsee, the
proximity to the Danube Valley and the short distance
to the Alps offers a multitude of possibilities for
lovely and meaningful leisure activities. Near Dürnau
there are lakes for swimming and thermal baths. The
cities of Stuttgart (60 miles), Zurich (Switzerland,
90 miles), and Munich (100 miles) are also easily
reachable.
When?
We have organized for this year three workcamps over
the following dates:
June 1, 2008 to June 30, 2008
July 1, 2008 to July 31, 2008
August 1, 2008 to August 31, 2008
Here are some important details about the Workcamps in
Dürnau. More information and the registration form

What is a Workcamp?
Participation in an international Summer Workcamp
means voluntarily contributing to a project. No one
earns any money for such work. A Workcamp gives one
the chance to get to know other people and cultures,
to improve or immerse oneself in a foreign language
both at work and in leisure time, and to educate
oneself in social skills. Respect for other cultures
and lifestyles is a prerequisite for participation, as
well as a willingness to live for a time in a
community.
The Summer Workcamps in Dürnau have a special
character, because the host is the Kooperative Dürnau,
a collective community. Besides the work assignments
on the farm, there are also possibilities in this
special social situation to learn all about other
lifestyle concepts and other lines of work. This
provides the opportunity for one to consider one's own
life habits, and already many departing participants
have gone forth with new motivations for designing
their livestyles.
Age
The minimum age for our Workcamps is 18, and as a
general rule a maximum age of 26. Exceptions are
possible by arrangement.
English or German language ability is necessary for
all programs.
Registration
The registration is achieved via either the internet
form or by mail. Upon registration, the conditions for
participation are acknowledged and accepted. After
receiving confirmation, the registration fee (25
Euros) is to be transferred.
Room and Board
For the duration of the particular program, housing
and meals are freely provided in each case. Costs for
transportation to and from Dürnau, individual
activities, daytrips, telephone use, and similar costs
are in principle not covered. Pocket money, travel
costs for leisure trips, etc. must be covered by every
participant for himself.
Insurance
Participants in Workcamps of the "Fercher von
Steinwand" Assocation are insured for the duration of
the program against accident, illness, and liability
damages according to the conditions and services of
the "Youth Insurance Policy" (Jugendversicherungswerk)
of the "Deutscher Ring" Corporation (Hamburg).
