Thinking about upgrading

I wanna upgrade my bike by the end of the summer, but i'd like to start saving now.
Currently i'm riding a yamaha ybr 125, on a provisional, but i wanna get my full licence on a 250, was thinking of the fazer cause the ybr is a brilliant bike, and yamaha seem to have gotten it right with reliability. But i'm very open to other bikes in that range. So is there any recommendations from you guys, or can i even ride a 250 before i get my full license. And what's the insurance like with 1 year no claims bonus?

Edit// Ok, i've researched the fazer 250 :( it's only availible in 600cc, but could i import it from india, or would that be just a waste of time as it'll prob end up costing lots more, but i can see the resale benefit come next summer when i want the 600 as it'll be the only one, or one of the few in the country, so i could totally bull**** the price. Is there an importing thread i've missed?

Apart from the import duties and shipping charges, the reliability of the bike could be questionable if you import it without seeing the thing.

You can get the fazer 600 in restricted form.

    MAG Ireland Importing fact sheet

I had a grey import before. A bit of a PITA as all parts had to be ordered through main dealer, so no cheap parts and there was always long lead times for delivery. Most threads I've seen about importing bikes seem to have been motivated by cost and the savings to be made buying a bike abroad, not about rarity value. Also OP should also think of re-sale value - will a one-off import be easy to sell on?

get the fazer 600 restricted version. Best to pass your test on a >11Kw motorcycle. I would not buy a specific 200cc bike since the majority weight very little. I think improving your skills on a restricted 600 makes best sense as it will give you a better sense of the type of weight most bikes are.

There is no harm or quality issue when importing from India as most of bike Mfg. companies in india are full quality oriented company and already supply to all ove the world.

There is a bit of hitch though, Me, being from India itself, i dont think YAMAHA INDIA makes frazer 600 in India

Rest is OK if you want to omport somehting else but be carefull, not becuase you are importing from india, its becuase importing from any country require a bit of eye open and brian use......
fraudestor can be anywhere, from tallaght to Delhi to Sydney,,,, :-)
